With all the negative news that the mainstream media creates around Donald Trump, it might be surprising for some Americans to learn that Trump has a big heart. Long before he ever set his sights on helping the country as its president, he was giving aid to some different causes that tugged at his heartstrings.
In an old episode of The Maury Show which aired in 2000, a unique 10-year-old girl came on live TV as a guest. She suffered from brittle bone disease, also known as osteogenesis imperfecta (OI). When Trump heard about her situation, he sent in an encouraging video as well as a substantial check to help the family out.
Her name was Megan, and her condition meant that at ten years old, she stood at only 32 inches tall and was completely unable to walk on her own. Her mother, Debbie, wrote into The Maury Show, who found another child like Megan and had them come on the segment.
Sometime later, however, the little girl was invited back on the show for a special surprise. Donald Trump had seen the first segment on television and was so moved by her situation that he personally felt he wanted to do something to help.
Trump’s message was as follows: “Hi Megan, my name’s Donald. You probably don’t know me, but I was watching Maury’s show the other day, and I must tell you, you really hit me right here. I think you are so beautiful, both inside and out, I had a little something, a little gift that I gave to Maury, who’s a friend of mine…and I hope you and your mother have a good time with it. And you’re very special, and you just keep it up and keep up that attitude. So good luck, and you stay in touch.”
Although the sum of money provided was not revealed, Maury did say that “when Trump gives out checks, we’re not talking chump change here.” He then asked the 10-year-old if she could see “all those zeroes.”
It’s a heartwarming sentiment and one that’s completely at odds with the mainstream media’s depiction of him as a boisterous uncaring buffoon. During the presidential election, he was criticized for allegedly mocking a disabled reporter. Of course, this was something that witnesses and anyone who has met Trump personally knew was quite uncharacteristic of him.
Megan’s situation was not the only time Trump went out of his way to help a family. Back in the 1980’s, Trump helped prevent the foreclosure of a family farm whose owner had committed suicide in an attempt to save his land, hoping the life insurance would pay off his debts.
Unfortunately, life insurance policies have a stipulation against suicides, and the man’s family was poised to still lose their beloved farm despite his death.
This so moved Trump that he personally got involved, helping prevent the farm’s foreclosure, and saving the family’s land. He went so far as to use his personal money as well as his connections to raise the required funds to help the family out.
In truth, Trump is far from the man he is portrayed to be, and people who have the opportunity to meet him in person always attest to this fact.
It is something to keep in mind the next time you hear a negative story about Donald Trump’s character.
