The tragedy at Charlottesville, Virginia, has generated a lot of finger-pointing on both sides of the issue, and a lot of misdirection by the Left. Instead of objectively assessing the situation, both Democrats and Republicans opposed to the Trump presidency are using this as an opportunity to criticize President Trump.
Col. Allen B. West delivers a sober-minded analysis of Charlottesville, asking the questions the mainstream media won’t. As seen on Allen B. West, the highly-respected conservative icon explains how the Left let violence at Charlottesville spin out of control and is now applying a double standard to its coverage in order to damage the president.
Col. West begins by stating he deplores all forms of supremacy–be it white supremacy, black supremacy, or Islamic supremacy. He also expresses his condolences to the family of Heather Heyer, who was killed when a deranged man drove into a group of protesters.
But then West does what no one in the mainstream media has done since the violence broke out on Saturday. He pauses to think rationally about what actually happened and tries to determine how future incidents can be prevented.
West points out that Virginia’s Democrat government instigated unrest when they began implementing their progressive worldview by removing monuments to famous Confederate heroes.
For West, as a black man, Confederate monuments are not “oppressive.” The leftist media wants minorities to believe that they’re somehow being oppressed by the mere presence of these historical sites.
Former President Barack Obama sided with real-life oppressive historical figures several times during his presidency. Although he took a photo-op in Cuba in front of a picture of Che Guevara, West says he didn’t let an image make him feel oppressed.
West argues that even after making the incorrect decision to remove the historical monuments, the local government completely failed in taking the necessary precautions to create a safe environment for all citizens.
As the Los Angeles Times observes, Charlottesville’s municipal government and police department had months to prepare for the protests. The “Unite the Right” group had received permits for their demonstrations against the removal of the Confederate monuments. Col. West asks an important question: Did Antifa and other leftist agitators have permits? Or were they freely allowed to waltz in and provoke violence?
West describes what city leadership should have done to ensure public safety: “What should have happened is that these two groups should have been kept miles apart. I do not understand why any local law enforcement agency would allow these two groups close proximity…first lesson learned. And we must also ascertain, did the counter-protest group seek permit or did they just ‘show up’ in order to provoke, and elicit a response they could use ‘politically?'”
President Trump is being repeatedly asked to disavow the violence committed by alleged white supremacists in Charlottesville. As The Daily Caller reports, Trump has condemned the criminals. But unsurprisingly, the media remains unsatisfied with his response.
Yet there was little such demand for Bernie Sanders to disavow his supporter, James Hodgkinson, who shot Congressman Steve Scalise (R-LA). Nor was former President Obama asked to disavow the murder of police by Black Lives Matter. Sadly, it seems the Left is playing with the lives of innocent Americans for political gain.
