The establishment mainstream media continues to face off with the Trump administration, producing some of the most one-sided coverage in modern history.
“Why Isn’t the Senate Intel Committee looking into the Fake News Networks in OUR country to see why so much of our news is just made up-FAKE!” President Trump tweeted, suggesting that Congress should investigate the domestic news media in addition to potential Russian involvement in American public discourse.
President Trump was responding to the recent announcement by Senators
The Senators would not comment on whether there was evidence the Russian government colluded with President Trump’s election campaign. They also announced that the investigation into accusations that President Trump obstructed justice when he vouched for General Michael Flynn in a private meeting with fired FBI Director James Comey had “reached a logical end” without calls for sanctions or charges.
Shortly after calling on the Senate Intel Committee to look into domestic interference in the election, President Trump took aim at two fake news stories circulating in the mainstream media.
“Rex Tillerson never threatened to resign. This is Fake News put out by @NBCNews. Low news and reporting standards. No verification from me.” President Trump tweeted.
“Stock Market hits an ALL-TIME high! Unemployment lowest in 16 years! Business and manufacturing enthusiasm at highest level in decades!” He said in another tweet, suggesting that the mainstream media refuse to report anything positive about the Trump administration.
The battle between President Trump and the mainstream news made it’s way into the White House Press Conference recently when reporters from Politico and CNN asked Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders if the President values freedom of the press.
“We see a problem with any stories that are inaccurate or untruthful being presented to the American people as facts,” Sanders said, adding that the “President is an incredible advocate of the First Amendment.” But that, “[w]ith the First Amendment, with those freedoms also come responsibilities, and you have a responsibility, to tell the truth, to be accurate.”
Trump says Congress should investigate the domestic news media in addition to potential Russian involvement in American public discourse. Are you sick of Trump pummeling?
Sarah Huckabee Sanders relayed the results of a recent Media Research Center analysis which revealed that over 90 percent of the mainstream coverage of President Trump has been negative. The analysis found that evening news broadcasts spend 39 percent of their airtime discussing President Trump, with the vast majority of the coverage taking a negative spin.
The media is dedicating most of their time to attacking President Trump, “while at the same time you have the stock market and economic confidence at an all-time high, ISIS is on the run, unemployment is at the lowest it has been in 17 years, we’ve cut regulations at a historic pace, we are fixing [Veterans Affairs] for our vets,” Sanders says.
“Frankly, those are the issues most Americans care about; not a lot of the things that you cover, not a lot of the petty palace intrigue that you spend your time on,” she added.
