President Trump made a decision after the New York terrorist attack this week that will earn the respect of Americans across the country.
“I am, today, starting the process of terminating the diversity lottery program,” said President Trump according to The Washington Times. “I am going to ask Congress to immediately initiate work to get rid of this program. Diversity lottery – it sounds nice, it’s not nice. It hasn’t been good. We’ve been against it.”
On Wednesday, the President announced that he intended to terminate the visa program which allowed the New York terror suspect to enter the country in the first place, adding that he wanted swifter punishment for these “animals” who commit such atrocities.
Sayfullo Saipov is accused of killing eight people and injuring a dozen more when he ran them over with a rented truck in Manhattan. The attacker said that he felt so proud of what he did that he asked investigators whether he could display the ISIS flag in his hospital room, according to NBC News.
Saipov admitted that he had become radicalized by watching ISIS videos on his phone and felt inspired by ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi’s call for revenge against the United States. An FBI agent assigned to the case wrote, “Saipov wanted to kill as many people as he could.”
In response, President Trump said that authorities should “Send him to Gitmo,” and “That was a horrible event. We have to stop it and we have to stop it cold.” He also told reporters that he will ask Congress to end the lottery visa program which allowed Saipov to come to the US in 2010 from Uzbekistan.
“I am today starting the process of terminating the diversity lottery program,” Mr. Trump said. “I am going to ask Congress to immediately initiate work to get rid of this program. Diversity lottery — it sounds nice, it’s not nice. It hasn’t been good. We’ve been against it.”
The President also called out Democrats for choosing to subscribe to political correctness and blocking common-sense proposals, such as ending “chain migration,” which allows one immigrant to bring many of his relatives into the country later.
“We have to get much tougher, we have to get much smarter and we have to get much less politically correct,” Mr. Trump said. “We’re so politically correct that we’re afraid to do anything. There are bills already about ending chain migration. We’re being stopped by Democrats because they’re obstructionists. Honestly, they don’t want to do what’s right for our country. We need strength, we need resolve.”
The President had previously called out Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), who had first drafted the bill in 1990 in response to Irish lobbies in his New York district. It has awarded 50,000 visas per year through an annual lottery to entrants from around the world, according to Breitbart.
President Trump wants to end the Diversity Visa Program. Do you think Congress will listen?
“Senator Chuck Schumer helping to import Europes problems,” said Col.Tony Shaffer. We will stop this craziness!” tweeted Trump.
With an August Politico poll before the attack showing only 15 percent of Americans strongly supported the lottery visa program, it’s clear that President Trump is acting in accordance with the will of the American people. It’s just a matter of seeing whether Congress will respect the wishes of its constituents.
