President Trump campaigned on the promise that he would protect our borders and fight illegal immigration.
Under Obama’s administration, illegal immigration was rampant as “sanctuary cities” protected and provided for these non-citizens, some of whom proved to be criminals. Now with Trump behind the wheel, ICE is gearing up to send these criminals packing, even those inside sanctuary cities. (via Washington Examiner)
Thomas D. Homan, head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, is preparing his department for a massive overhaul as they prepare to raid sanctuary cities and deport illegal criminals. He believes Trump has given ICE new life by taking “the handcuffs off of law enforcement.” (via Washington Examiner)
Since Trump has taken office with his oath to deport millions of illegal immigrants, ICE has seen a shift in attitude as it feels free to finally do its job and carry out the law.
Homan said that upon Trump entering office, illegal immigration has dropped to “an historic low” as incoming illegal immigrants have decreased 70 percent. He also stated that arrests of illegal criminals in the U.S. has increased 40 percent and the amount of illegal immigrants in jail has jumped 80 percent. (via Washington Examiner)
Yet many cities have been fighting Trump’s orders to deport illegal immigrants and are finding ways to defy the law.
California has been in the news recently for creating a bill that would allow cities to ignore federal law and restrict the ability of immigration enforcers to doing their job. The so called “California Values Act” allows California to prevent ICE from deporting illegal immigrants sent to jail for crimes, and even allows them to determine if the crime is serious enough to warrant notifying ICE of the criminal’s illegal status.
Preventing ICE from deporting illegal immigrants makes its job harder, according to Homan, as going after immigrants on the streets creates greater fear that could lead to dangerous results for both ICE agents and their targets. For these reasons, Homan is extremely critical of sanctuary cities that seek to protect criminals.
“In the America I grew up in, cities didn’t shield people who violated the law,” Homan said. (via Washington Examiner)
Yet this belief isn’t shared by liberals who believe that non-citizens should receive the same rights as citizens. Liberals strongly protested the moves by Trump and ICE to have illegal immigrants deported as evidenced by California and sanctuary cities throughout the country.
President Trump promised to protect our nation from illegal criminals. Do you support his immigration policies?
They do this despite their illegal status, the potential danger entering criminals pose to Americans, and are willingly ignoring the burden illegal immigrants put on tax payers by qualifying them for welfare, public education, and other services.
Now with the president behind him, Homan wants liberals to be very aware of his intentions to do his job. “What I want to get to is a clear understanding from everybody, from the congressmen to the politicians to law enforcement to those who enter the country illegally, that ICE is open for business. We’re going to enforce the laws on the books without apology, we’ll continue to prioritize what we do. But it’s not ok to violate the laws of this country anymore, you’re going to be held accountable,” said Homan. (via Washington Examiner)
It’s time the criminals were sent packing, and between Trump and Homan that might just happen, despite whatever liberals try.
