Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) is known as a man who does not pull punches. He is constantly looking for the truth, regardless of where the road takes him.
Rep. Gowdy’s recently announced investigation will reveal the truth regarding a series of events that have left the American people puzzled for over a year. The House Oversight & Government Reform Committee, in which Gowdy plays an important role, is looking to re-examine the case of Hillary Clinton’s private email server. Specifically, they are looking into how former-FBI Director James Comey ties into all of this, according to The Washington Examiner.
The Washington Examiner asked Mr. Gowdy in an interview if the committee will have to bring Comey in and interview him to get answers regarding their probe. “Have to, won’t we?” Rep. Gowdy responded.
The South Carolina Representative is one of the chairs on the House Oversight & Government Reform Committee, which has decided to open a joint investigation along with the Judiciary Committee. Their goal is to figure out whether the Justice Department botched the investigation, which many now believe was politicized beyond effectiveness.
One of the biggest concerns that Rep. Gowdy expressed is that “the decision to charge or not charge [Clinton] was made before all the witnesses were interviewed.” He did clarify that the questions they will be asking are structured in a very non-partisan way.
“Of the six things we listed with specificity, three of them are things Democrats gave a big damn about last fall,” Gowdy stated. He went on to clarify further.
“So, the question is, do they still? And three of them are things that Republicans cared about a lot last year, and the question is, do they still?” This line of questioning will give the committee straight answers through the asking of relevant, cogent and directly worded questions regardless of political affiliation.
News of the investigations came Tuesday. The committee emphasized that the main focal point of the investigation is on Comey and why the FBI would decide what information they could reveal and at what time.
Another answer that will be brought to light is whether or not the FBI made a mistake when they noted that the Clinton team was “extremely careless” in the way that they handled classified information. Democrats protested this point, claiming that this particular statement went against the DOJ protocol.
When Rep. Gowdy was asked to describe how his investigation will be executed, he summed it up the only way a straight-shooter can. “Gather documents, gather access to witnesses, do your due diligence, and your investigation and see where it takes you,” Gowdy explained.
Rep. Gowdy and the House Oversight & Government Reform Committee are looking to reexamine the case concerning Hillary Clinton’s private email servers. Do you think they will find anything that points to wrongdoing?
He went on to explain that he thinks this will not directly change the outcome of the Clinton email investigation. However, he does hope that this will restore some of the faith in the DOJ that was lost while Comey was in charge.
Overall, this joint investigation will be telling. The American people have been clamoring for answers and have yet to hear anything of substance. This investigation is Rep. Gowdy attempting to follow through with his promise to serve the American people and this country.
