More top Democrat officials are coming out to inform citizens of the truth behind the 2016 presidential election.
Democratic National Committee Vice Chair Keith Ellison said that he believed the 2016 Democrat primary was not a fair race, and that Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-VT) was at a disadvantage throughout the election, according to The Daily Caller.
Speaking in an interview with “Pod Save America,” Mr. Ellison responded to recent revelations that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had made a deal with the DNC, allowing her to hire staff and make other decisions before she had secured the nomination – something that the Sanders campaign couldn’t do.
“It wasn’t fair that one candidate in the primary had the prerogative to appoint staff – we should just admit that, and move on! We should correct it, we should rectify it, but it doesn’t profit us to say, ‘oh it wasn’t rigged,’ and argue over whether it was rigged or not rigged–it wasn’t fair,” he said.
“I think we should pledge to never do this again and that, I think, is really the most important thing here,” Mr. Ellison concluded.
The DNC Vice Chair’s comments emerged in light of the recent memoir by former DNC chair, Donna Brazile. Amidst a series of fascinating revelations, such as how the DNC seriously considered replacing Clinton on the ticket after she collapsed at the 9/11 memorial service, Brazile’s book describes how she concluded that the campaign had rigged the election in Hillary Clinton’s favor.
“The timing couldn’t have been worse. It does us no good to hash out all this stuff. At this point, we should be looking to the future — what’s done is done,” said former DNC chairman and Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell in response to the findings, according to Politico.
Brazile’s memoir further describes the Clinton campaign as “badly mismanaged” and “spiritless.” While speaking with MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough, she said that “It was a cult. It felt like it was a cult. You could not penetrate them.”
President Trump tweeted in response that “The real story on Collusion is in Donna B’s new book. Crooked Hillary bought the DNC & then stole the Democratic Primary from Crazy Bernie!”
Many Democrats came forward to either apologize to their constituents or to dismiss the claims as being either inaccurate or irrelevant. DNC Chairman Tom Perez was among the former, apologizing to his supporters and promising to do better next time. “I am more committed than ever before to restoring voters’ faith in our democratic process because even the perception of impartiality or an unfair advantage undermines our ability to win. That is unacceptable,” Mr. Perez wrote, adding that he agreed with the notion that the DNC failed Americans during a crucial junction in the Democrat primary.
Was the 2016 election rigged against Bernie Sanders?
In response to the book, over 100 former Clinton aides disavowed Brazile’s portrayal of the campaign, causing further division in an already scandal-ridden political party that is facing a key gubernatorial race in New Jersey.
This shocking admission from top Democrat officials not only proves that Sen. Sanders was unfairly defeated in the Democrat primary, but also casts further doubt on the legitimacy of the left-leaning political party as a whole.
