Texas could create a digital currency backed by gold and silver if a proposal in the state’s Senate moves forward.

The law would allow the state to mint pure gold or silver coins based on weight and issue debit cards that have their value backed up by gold or silver, according to the Epoch Times.

The proposal would allow anyone in the world -- not just Texans -- to purchase gold or silver to start an account and use that for any legal purpose. The gold and silver would be held at the Texas Bullion Depository. As the value of that gold or silver rises, so does the spending power of the account holder.

The Epoch Times said the proposal is partly aimed at avoiding a federal digital dollar -- a concept under consideration by the Biden administration.

States are allowed to make gold and silver coins.

Republican state Sen. Bryan Hughes, the proposal’s sponsor, said it is a response to worries about bank failures, inflation and the possible creation of a federal Central Bank Digital Currency.

“We know that the dollar, of course, lost more value last year -- in 2022 -- than any year since 1980,” Hughes said.

He said his proposal is “a hedge against inflation, a signal to the Feds that their digital dollar will not control us, and another way to pay at a very basic level.”

Republican state Rep. Mark Dorazio, who drafted a bill in the House that is similar to the Senate plan, told The New York Sun that the proposal was “one way to protect Texans from out-of-control inflation.”

“Constituents in my district have expressed an interest in buying gold, as well as having the ability to use it in everyday transactions,” he said. Dorazio’s bill failed to pass.

"We're talking about real gold and silver would have to back up every unit in this," Hughes said, according to the Austin American-Statesman. "So it's a real currency, it's not just believe it because the government says it's good."

Some voices urge caution in any type of digital currency.

"It's kind of the Wild West out there at the state and the federal level," Steve Scurlock, director of government relations for the Independent Bankers Association of Texas, said. "I think there's a lot of discussion on how to regulate and how to make it safe for those that have it, how it's processed."

Others say there is opportunity.

Kevin Freeman, an investment expert, said if Texas develops a feasible plan, it could dominate the market for digital currency, according to The Epoch Times.

“This is the first bill in modern times that addresses all of the issues and problems,” Freeman said.

A release from the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy said that the Biden administration “has been closely examining the implications of, and options for, issuing a CBDC.”

And that irks Republican Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, who has proposed legislation to stop that idea in its tracks, according to Cruz’s website.

“The federal government has no authority to unilaterally establish a central bank currency. This bill goes a long way in making sure big government doesn’t attempt to centralize or control cryptocurrency and instead, allows it to thrive in the United States. We should be empowering entrepreneurs, enabling innovation, and increasing individual freedom -- not stifling it,” he said.

Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa agreed, saying, “The American people ought to be able to spend their money how they choose without the possibility that every transaction could be tracked by the government. Policy this impactful should be made by Congress, not government bureaucrats, and our bill would ensure that no one is snooping on the finances of hardworking Americans. Every American deserves that peace of mind

One family's attempt to take a picture at Disney World in Florida ended in an all-out brawl.

A fight broke out in front of 100th-anniversary signage at the theme park on Monday, according to WOFL.

A source with the Orange County Sheriff's Office indicated that the fight was spurred when a member of one family asked the other to move so that they could take a picture, according to WOFL.

The individual told to move responded with a punch to the face.

Video of the altercation shows parties from two groups grappling and wrestling in a chaotic scrum.

"Did you see how it broke out?" a surprised observer stated of the fight.

"I was just walking right here and then I saw it just happening."

One person received medical treatment following the family brawl.

They declined to press charges, according to WOFL.

Two other participants in the scrum were removed from Disney World.

This brawl wasn't the first of its kind to occur at the Lake Buena Vista, Florida, entertainment park.

Disney instituted a new "courtesy advisory" policy at both its Anaheim and Florida parks late last year, according to Deseret News.

“We ask all who come to this happy place to treat others with respect, kindness and compassion,” the entertainment giant urged guests.

“To help guests have a safe and enjoyable experience, we regularly update our Disneyland resort rules.”

“You must always remember to treat others with respect, kindness and compassion. Those who can’t live up to this simple wish may be asked to leave Walt Disney World resort.”

Disney is yet to provide public comment on the latest brawl on Disney World premises.

Only days after the attorney for an Internal Revenue Service whistleblower who has claimed the federal investigation into Hunter Biden’s has been hamstrung by political interference met with leading members of Congress, the IRS struck in what the attorney said was a “clearly retaliatory” action.

On Friday, attorney Mark Lytle, who represents the whistleblower, met members of the House Ways and Means and Senate Finance committees to discuss what the whistleblower could and could not say in keeping with privacy laws governing tax returns, according to CBS.

On Monday, the IRS took all of its current staff investigating Hunter Biden’s taxes off the investigation, according to the New York Post.

The Post said it obtained a letter from the whistleblower’s attorneys to congressional leaders.

“Today the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Criminal Supervisory Special Agent we represent was informed that he and his entire investigative team are being removed from the ongoing and sensitive investigation of the high-profile, controversial subject about which our client sought to make whistleblower disclosures to Congress,” Lytle and attorney Tristan Leavitt wrote.

The whistleblower “was informed the change was at the request of the Department of Justice,” the letter said.

“On April 27, 2023, IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel appeared before the House Committee on Ways and Means. He testified: ‘I can say without any hesitation there will be no retaliation for anyone making an allegation or a call to a whistleblower hotline,'" the lawyers wrote.

"However, this move is clearly retaliatory and may also constitute obstruction of a congressional inquiry,” the letter stated.

The letter said reassigning the team violates the letter and spirit of whistleblower rules and federal law.

“Our client has a right to make disclosures to Congress … He is protected by 5 U.S.C. § 2302 from retaliatory personnel actions — including receiving a ‘significant change in duties, responsibilities, or working conditions’ (which this clearly is) because of his disclosures to Congress,” the letter stated.

“Any attempt by any government official to prevent a federal employee from furnishing information to Congress is also a direct violation of longstanding appropriations restriction. Furthermore, 18 U.S.C. § 1505 makes it a crime to obstruct an investigation of Congress."

The letter argued that the removal indicates the type of conduct the whistleblower seeks to expose.

“Removing the experienced investigators who have worked this case for years and are now the subject-matter experts is exactly the sort of issue our client intended to blow the whistle on to begin with,” the letter said.

The Post said that neither the IRS nor the Department of Justice would comment on the letter.

Last month, Lytle released a letter from the whistleblower saying he wanted to discuss “preferential treatment” in Hunter Biden’s investigation and political interference from a top political appointee.

On Friday, CNN reported that an aide to a Republican member of the House Ways and Means Committee said the panel would meet soon with the whistleblower.

While the Republican House majority controls the Ways and Means Committee, Democrats control the Senate and the Senate Finance Committee.

But a spokesman for Oregon Democratic Sen. Ron Wyden, chairman of the Finance Committee, said the panel's leading Republican is, Idaho Republican Mike Crapo, is involved.

“The process is proceeding on a bipartisan basis with ranking member [Mike] Crapo’s staff,” Wyden spokesman Ryan Carey said, according to CNN.

A trial has been set for Alexandra Eckersely, the daughter of Hall of Fame baseball player Dennis Eckersley, for January 2024.

According to local news station WMUR-TV in Manchester, New Hampshire, Eckersley was indicted by a grand jury in January on charges of "second-degree assault, falsifying physical evidence and reckless conduct."

The charges stemmed from Dec. 26 when Eckersley gave birth to a son in the woods in New Hampshire.

The New York Post reported that temperatures were below freezing that night, but after giving birth Eckersley allegedly left her son in the tent where she and her boyfriend were living at the time.

After Eckersley gave birth, she "allegedly led first responders astray for more than an hour by failing to give them the real location of the baby," WMUR-TV reported.

Kim Kossick, Eckersley's attorney, had a different version of events for that night.

"She was bleeding. She had medical complications after this happened, still," Kossick told WMUR. "They had no concern for her welfare at all. And frankly, I think they're very lucky that something worse didn't happen to her."

When offered a settlement deal by the state, Kossick reportedly just laughed and turned the deal down.

Eckersley case set to go to trial if no settlement reached https://t.co/Z7nimou3G0

— WMUR TV (@WMUR9) May 12, 2023

"The state is correct. I did laugh," Kossick said. Prosecutors say they want prison time, but Kossick said after the hearing that prison time is not warranted.

"Everything is going great. There's nothing bad to say about her," Kossick stated. "The idea that this person who had a medical emergency should go to prison is laughable, and that's why I laughed."

George Theberge, Eckersley's then-boyfriend, was arrested in conjunction with the incident as well.

Since Eckersley's arrest, her defense team stated Eckersley is sober and finished all her rehabilitation programs. She sees her son twice a week, and he is doing great, according to the outlet.

"She just saw him yesterday," Kossick told WMUR-TV. "I've seen tons of pictures of him. He's beautiful and healthy."

Eckersley is the adopted daughter of Hall of Fame closer Dennis Eckersley who is most well known for his time with the Oakland Athletics.

Dennis Eckersley's daughter's trial is scheduled for five days beginning on Jan. 22 so there is still time for the state and defense to come to an agreement.

As the situation at the southern border spirals out of control, one migrant let slip the true cause of the surge.

At 11:59 pm on Thursday night, Biden allowed Title 42, a Trump-era policy allowing for the quick removal of illegal immigrants, to expire. As anyone with common sense could have guessed, this led to absolute chaos at the border.

With communities along the US-Mexico border struggling to grapple with the dire situation, a CNN reporter interviewed one migrant about his reasons for coming across, and what he said completely demolished the left's border narrative.

The reporter asked him, "Were you aware of Title 42 and that they were going to open the border like before the pandemic?"

The migrant responded that he did indeed decide to cross the border because he had heard that the border was going to be open once Title 42 expired. At this point, the reporter quickly thanked him and ended the interview.

WATCH: This migrant admits he crossed the border illegally because Title 42 is ending. pic.twitter.com/9ybJaTpK8K

— Sen. Marsha Blackburn (@MarshaBlackburn) May 11, 2023

The fact of the matter is that the left has been spouting the claim that the Biden administration's border policies, such as allowing Title 42 to expire, have nothing to do with the crisis that has been unfolding at the border for the past two years.

Unfortunately for them, it is clear to anyone with eyes to see that the border crisis is entirely the fault of the Biden administration and his leftist border policies.

Donald Trump's border policies saw a massive decrease in the number of people trying to illegally cross the southern border, and they also saw a massive decrease in the rate of violent crime along the southern border.

Now, a migrant has admitted on national television to what everyone already knew, and that is that Biden and Kamala Harris are personally responsible for the crisis at the border.

Not only have these policies resulted in a massive influx of illegal immigrants into the country, but they have resulted in dangerous drugs such as fentanyl flooding the streets and putting Americans at serious risk.

With all this happening, it should not be a surprise that there are many on Twitter calling for the impeachment and indictment of Biden, Harris and the other officials responsible for this.

The Border Crisis Is A Brazen Crime And Biden Should Be Impeached https://t.co/4jROVAa4w8

Impeachment MUST begin for Biden, Harris, and Mayorkas -- all of whom intentionally failed to secure America. https://t.co/pgGsEVl5kO

— Vernon Jones (@VernonForGA) May 12, 2023

The job of the president of the United States is to protect the American people from harm. Biden is not able to do something as simple as secure our borders.

Worse, Biden and his administration have encouraged people to illegally come across, putting even more American lives at risk.

It is time for Biden, Harris and others to be held responsible and face serious consequences for their actions.

Whatever reaction CNN was hoping would happen with Wednesday night's town hall featuring former President Donald Trump, this wasn't it.

It became apparent right out of the gate that the event, with CNN's Kaitlan Collins at the mic, was set up as a hit job on the 45th president and his re-election plans.

But judging by the response from Trump supporters, the impact was exactly the opposite.

"Thanks, CNN" isn't the usual sentiment in MAGA world for the notoriously liberal network. (It's usually more along the lines of "CNN sucks" -- or worse.)

But during the town hall and in the hours after, it was a trending theme for Trump voters on social media.

"Trump just won the presidency. Thanks CNN," one Twitter user declared shortly after the festivities opened with Trump calling Collins a "nasty person."

CNN tried to lay a trap and President #Trump just walked all over it.

You're a nasty person" -- Trump to Kaitlan Collins (the audience cheers)

It's way too early to be declaring Trump the victor of the 2024 presidential election, of course.

While he's the front-runner for the GOP nomination at this point -- by a good bit, according to RealClearPolitics poll averages -- he still has to win it.

And that's just the beginning of the general election campaign, presumably against President Joe Biden, who will have -- as he did in  2020 -- the overwhelming support of the nation's establishment news media (the major networks, New York Times-style major newspapers), the cultural influences of Hollywood and late night television, much of social media (though hopefully not Twitter this time around), the liberals in charge of academia, and, of course, the dishonest bureaucrats and intelligence operatives of the deep state.

Tuesday's jury verdict in the civil suit filed against Trump by a writer who claimed he raped her in a Manhattan department store around 1996 certainly didn't help.

The jury found Trump liable for sexual abuse and defamation in the case.

[firefly_poll]

(Not to make light of any accusation, or of any verdict reached by an American jury, but it would be dishonest not to point out that this was a civil case brought against Trump that was decided by a jury in Manhattan, a deep blue bastion where Donald Trump is loathed. If Biden got sued by Tara Reade in rural Alabama, on a similar accusation with similar evidence, it's a pretty good bet how the jury would go.)

But there's no doubt that Trump's performance at Wednesday night's event, with the undeniably hostile Collins, resonated with his fans.

The reaction from the American left was predictably furious.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York blew up at CNN while the show was still on.

"CNN should be ashamed of themselves," she wrote. "They have lost total control of this 'town hall' to again be manipulated into platforming election disinformation, defenses of Jan 6th, and a public attack on a sexual abuse victim.

"The audience is cheering him on and laughing at the host."

(You can practically hear her whiny, pseudo-superiority coming through the screen.)

This falls squarely on CNN. Everyone here saw exactly what was going to happen. Instead they put a sexual abuse victim in harm’s way for views. This was a choice to platform lies about the election & Jan 6th w/ no plan but to have their moderator interrupted without consequence.

— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) May 11, 2023

"This falls squarely on CNN. Everyone here saw exactly what was going to happen. Instead they put a sexual abuse victim in harm’s way for views. This was a choice to platform lies about the election & Jan 6th w/ no plan but to have their moderator interrupted without consequence."

Nikole Hannah Jones, the leftist academic who's found fame and fortune with the pile of lies knows as the the "1619 Project," was equally disgusted.

Unbelievable that @CNN is running this town hall.

"Unbelievable that CNN is running this town hall," she wrote.

If any more proof was needed that American politics is an upside-down world in 2023, the scene of Trump supporters praising CNN while leftists savage the network should do the trick.

Some liberal news sources, like MSNBC's "Morning Joe" tried to spin the event as posing potential problems for Trump, implying he might have incriminated himself on the question of classified documents that were at his home in South Florida's Mar-a-Lago Club:

One thing that is clear, though, is that boosting Donald Trump's presidential campaign was not what Kaitlan Collins & Co. had in mind when this town hall came together.

But judging by the reactions across the political spectrum Wednesday and Thursday, that's exactly what happened.

Powered in its infancy by the likes of Madonna and Michael Jackson, MTV News closing down.

The ax was swung Tuesday by Paramount Global as part of a company-wide set of cost-cutting measures, according to NBC.

Layoffs will reduce the workforces of Showtime, MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount Media Networks groups by 25 percent, the company announced. The goal of the restructuring is to combine nine subsidiaries into one portfolio.

As noted by the Los Angeles Times, the demise of MTV News comes as its liberal colleague BuzzFeed News shut down and Vice News is trying to find a buyer.

I wasn't even aware that MTV News was still a thing.
Twitter proves again that it is the news media now.

In a memo, Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount Media Networks president Chris McCarthy said “we continue to feel pressure from broader economic headwinds like many of our peers," according to NBC.

“As a result, we have made the very hard but necessary decision to reduce our domestic team by approximately 25 percent,” McCarthy said. “This is a tough yet important strategic realignment of our group. Through the elimination of some units and by streamlining others, we will be able to reduce costs and create a more effective approach to our business as we move forward.”

Four months ago. Showtime laid off 120 workers.

Paramount Global, the parent company, lost $1.12 billion in the first quarter of the year, according to Variety.

MTV News officially debuted in 1987, but had its roots earlier, according to Doug Herzog, who began as the MTV news director in 1984, according to the Los Angeles Times.

“This was the summer of ‘Purple Rain,’ ‘Born in the USA,’ the Jacksons’ Victory Tour and Madonna. It was like the Mt. Rushmore days of music video. They gave me a little money to start a department. But the guys who ran MTV, like Bob Pittman, were radio guys, and they didn’t really want to interrupt the music.”

He said the change came in 1987.

“The biggest stars -- Madonna, Prince, Bruce and others -- were a little less interested in talking to the VeeJays, because they thought they were, well, fluffy,” Herzog said. “Some of that was unfair criticism, but we felt that maybe [the artists] wanted someone with more credibility. So Linda [Corradina] came up with this idea of hiring Kurt Loder from Rolling Stone magazine," he said.

Here’s Kurt Loder announcing Kurt Cobain’s death on MTV News on Apr. 8, 1994.

This was how millions of people found out Kurt was gone. pic.twitter.com/lIgj4TAbmt

— Mike Beauvais (@MikeBeauvais) May 9, 2023

MTV News had its glory days in the 1990s, Herzog recalled.

“We started doing more hard-hitting stuff. We started making documentaries and winning awards. MTV, in those days, was a big cultural force. Everybody watched it, and everybody wanted to be a part of it, including Bill Clinton,” he said.

It was at a 1994 MTV town hall on MTV when the former president was asked if he wore boxers or briefs, responding “Usually briefs.”

Former MTV News senior writer and editor Gil Kaufman noted that MTV became a relic, according to the New York Post.

“I have two teenage kids, and they know that I worked for MTV, but they’ve never seen MTV. They wouldn’t even know where to look for it,” Kaufman said in a 2021 interview.

A new report from the House Oversight Committee shines a light on the Biden family's wide-ranging international business deals.

The Wednesday memorandum was released after the GOP-led committee subpoenaed four different banks -- receiving thousands of records in response, according to the document.

Bank records indicate that Biden-controlled businesses raked in more than $10 million from companies controlled by foreign nationals.

Based on the financial records we have obtained via bank subpoenas, we can now confidently trace at least $10 million in total from foreign nationals’ and their related companies going to the Biden family, their business associates, and their companies.

— Oversight Committee (@GOPoversight) May 10, 2023

Some payments took place while President Joe Biden served as vice president, and others were made after he left office in 2017.

The payments from foreign companies were distributed in incremental amounts to Biden family bank accounts -- a tactic that could've been used to disguise their ultimate source.

Chinese Communist Party-controlled entities took lengthy steps to funnel payments into entities controlled by Hunter Biden -- disguising their ultimate origin in doing so, according to the committee.

The Bidens took steps to hide, confuse, and conceal payments they received from foreign nationals. Here’s one example how a CCP-linked associate layered domestic limited liability companies to pay Hunter Biden. pic.twitter.com/GCx81QbrP3

The House Oversight Committee identifies Hunter Biden, James and Sara Biden, and Hallie Biden as recipients of funds funneled through agents of the Chinese government.

— Oversight Committee (@GOPoversight) May 10, 2023

No fewer than nine Biden family members are identified as recipients of foreign funds in the report -- outlining a scheme to profit off of the vice president's international influence.

Personally this seems like a scheme that Biden’s brother and Hunter Biden came up w to sell influence. They even used their kids to hide the payments. Not sure there is clear evidence of Joe Biden’s involvement, but at least warrants investigation by law enforcement & the press. https://t.co/5vz1YLKUOC pic.twitter.com/5cZlwhKOxf

Romanian national Gabriel Popoviciu -- convicted of corruption in the country -- also made payments to a Biden family-connected corporation, according to the memorandum.

While VP Biden was lecturing Romania on anti-corruption policies, he served as a walking billboard for his son & family to collect money.

Hunter & his associates capitalized on a lucrative financial relationship with a Romanian national who was later convicted of corruption.

— Oversight Committee (@GOPoversight) May 10, 2023

Biden family accounts were allegedly sent $1.038 million from the corporation in question -- after Popoviciu's Cyprus-registered company paid Biden firm Robinson Walker LLC more than $3 million.

A White House spokesman described the Oversight Committee report as "evidence-free" in a statement provided to Fox News, accusing its chairman Rep. James Comer of engaging in "absurd innuendo."

Hunter Biden is currently under federal investigation, with prosecutors eyeing potential tax and gun charges.

CORRECTION, May 9, 2023: In his tweet, Brett Favre said, "Time to boycott Fox until they come to their senses and let the man speak." An earlier headline for this article had a different quote.

There are few players in the annals of NFL history who have the legend that quarterback Brett Favre does.

Favre doesn't just have a Hall of Fame resumé, a Super Bowl ring, 11 Pro Bowls and three Most Valuable Player awards to his name. He has "legend," as in, "Did you know Brett Favre used to throw the football so hard it would leave imprints in his receiver's hands?"

Or, "Did you know Favre once threw four touchdowns and for over 300 yards in the first half alone on 'Monday Night Football' the day after his father suddenly died?" (this one is demonstrably true.)

Given all that, nobody would blink twice if the legendary NFL gunslinger simply rode off into the sunset after he retired following the 2010 NFL season. Only, the man hasn't done that. In fact, Favre has never been shy about espousing his opinions on whatever the latest happenings in the culture war are -- many of those takes generally having a more conservative tone to them.

Unsurprisingly, Favre has some thoughts on the unceremonious ouster of former Fox News host Tucker Carlson.

In short: The NFL legend is all-in on supporting Carlson.

Favre tweeted out that support alongside a video clip of another former Fox News host, Megyn Kelly, who was discussing the nasty Carlson-Fox News divorce.

I’m with Tucker. Time to boycott Fox until they come to their senses and let the man speak. pic.twitter.com/dvrNlLdvgW

— Brett Favre (@BrettFavre) May 8, 2023

"I'm with Tucker," Favre tweeted. "Time to boycott Fox until they come to their senses and let the man speak."

The video clip showed Kelly questioning if her viewers who watch Fox News can resist the network's siren call when it's time for the next big piece of news, whether that's a Ron DeSantis 2024 announcement or the next GOP debate.

The video eventually ends with several graphics calling for the boycott of Fox News (and if that background music sounds familiar, yes that's an instrumental version of Kid Rock's "American Bad A**" playing.)

Favre clearly agrees with that call to boycott Fox News, but it's also worth noting that both Favre and Kelly seem to believe the reports claiming that Fox News is using contractual shackles to keep Tucker Carlson sidelined, possibly through the next presidential election.

Naturally, other reports followed that one, claiming that Carlson is gearing up for a counter-offensive against Fox News to secure his freedom from the network's binding contracts.

Wherever the truth may lie, it's clear that Carlson has a groundswell of support all across the media landscape.

While neither Kelly nor Favre are at the peak of their respective powers, they're both still very big names with big platforms. Their opinions carry weight in the court of public opinion, and public pressure is a big part of Carlson's purported counter-attack on Fox News.

It is worth noting that Favre disabled the comments on his tweet, perhaps well aware of how polarizing Carlson could still be. Taking a glance at the tweet's retweets, it's clear that Favre's support of Carlson has struck a chord with left-leaning Twitter.

While Fox News continues its post-Carlson struggles and the Favre-approved boycott, all eyes are on what is next for Carlson.

Reports have circulated that Carlson could be interested in any number of ventures -- whether it's accepting a hefty salary at another news network, running his own network, or maybe entering politics via debate moderation.
