Imran Awan’s lawyer suggests that Islamophobia has played a major role in his client’s legal troubles. However, insinuating racism will not be enough to pull attention away from the scandal plaguing House Democrats.
Arrested Democrat IT Staffer Imran Awan’s wife, Hina Alvi, is returning to the United States from her native Pakistan after fleeing the country earlier this year. While speaking with Lou Dobbs on Fox Business News, Representative Trent Franks (R-AZ), explained that the Awan scandal is a “significant story” and Alvi’s return might mean “she is going to reach some type of immunity to tell a larger story here that is going to be pretty disturbing to the American people,” as reported by Gateway Pundit.
Imran Awan had been working as an IT staffer for Democrats in Congress since 2004. Starting his career with Representative Robert Wexler (FL-D), Imran Awan slowly started to provide IT services for other Democrat representatives including Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL).
In 2005, the Awan IT service became a family affair, and Imran’s brother Abid Awan started working on Capitol Hill. In 2007, Imran’s wife Alvi was added to the Democrats’ congressional payroll. Between 2007 and 2017 at least three other members of the Awan family, or close personal friends, were employed to provide IT service for Democrats.
In February 2017, the three Awan brothers working for Congress were suddenly blocked from accessing the congressional computer network after they were accused of hacking into networks they were not given permission to access. The Daily Caller reported that after losing access, the majority of the Democrats employing the Awans terminated their employment. Debbie Wasserman Schultz continued to pay Imran Awan as an advisor.
After having their access to the congressional network blocked, the Awan family started to flee to their native Pakistan. Hina Alvi was stopped by investigators in March at the Dulles International Airport attempting to board a plane to Pakistan with her three children. Police found over $12,000 in cash on Alvi, but they did not have enough evidence to stop her.

Months later, Imran Awan was arrested attempting to board a plane to Pakistan at the Dulles International Airport. The Daily Caller reported that police charged Imran with four counts of fraud in connection with a $300,000 wire transfer he made to Pakistan.
Now, in the latest twist, Hina Alvi is returning to the United States from her relative safety in Pakistan. Alvi’s sudden return suggests, according to Rep. Franks, that the Awan family may be seeking immunity in exchange for information against Debbie Wasserman Schultz or other Democrat members of Congress.
