The conflict between Israel and Palestine has the potential to erupt into full-scale war at any time. Recently, a rocket strike on the Israeli Defense Force could make a new war possible.
This morning, the IDF confirmed that a rocket fired from northern Gaza struck inside of Israel. Thankfully, the weapon landed in an open area inside of the Sha’ar Hanegev region, via Jerusalem Post.
For the IDF, the strike is worrisome for two reasons: 1) it may point to more violence given recent Palestinian attacks in the West Bank, and 2) the IDF’s advanced warning system did not go off before the missile landed in Israeli territory.
Today, Israeli officials arrested twenty-five Palestinians in Jerusalem and the West Bank. The raids, which were conducted by Shin Bet, were aimed at keeping Israeli-Palestinian tensions from rising.
All of the arrested Palestinians were reported to be members of the terrorist group Hamas.
This weekend’s unrest is likely in response to recent battles between Israeli police and Palestinians in Jerusalem. On July 14th, three Palestinian gunmen killed two Israeli police officers before being killed themselves. On Friday, a massive wave of protests led to the deaths of four Palestinians.
The Arab world has reacted to this violence by protesting certain security measures put in place by Tel Aviv. Namely, Israeli police have installed metal detectors at the Haram al-Sharif-Temple Mount, which is considered one of the holiest sites in Islam and Christianity.
Arab passions reached a boiling point on July 14th when, in the wake of the shootings, the Israeli police temporarily closed down access to the Temple Mount. For this move, certain Arab nations, including the Kingdom of Jordan, protested to the UN about Israel allegedly restricting the religious freedoms of Muslims.
Ever since 1948, when the modern state of Israel was founded, various wars have broken out between the Jewish state and its Arab neighbors. In the Arab world, Israel is not only seen as illegitimate, but also as an “apartheid” state that is currently conducting a “genocide” campaign against Palestinians.
These complaints are commonplace on many American college campuses, where a coalition of far-left protesters and Islamists have joined forces in a “Boycott Israel” movement.
One could make the argument that the terrifying connection between the far-left and Islamism began in Palestine, where the Palestine Liberation Organization and other terrorist groups trained Marxist and jihadist groups in order to attack Israel, Europe, and America.
Supporting the nation of Israel in its fight against terrorism is crucial, not only for their security, but for our own. Do you agree? Let everyone know in the poll below!
The conflict between these two nations will not end soon, but hopefully all-out war can be avoided. If not, the United States must stand beside Israel in defense of her security. While some liberals may not want to admit the truth, it’s been clear for years who the true aggressor is in this entire conflict — and it isn’t Israel.
Americans should be thankful that after eight years of an anti-Israel president in Barack Obama, we now have President Trump drawing a line in the sand. His unfailing support for Israel has sent a message to Israelis that we’re by their side once again, and nothing can shake that bond. We must fight terrorism as a united front.
