Another vital cornerstone of the alleged Russian-Trump “collusion” scandal is falling apart as new information surfaces regarding the Russian lawyer who met with Donald Trump Jr. during the presidential campaign.
Despite the media’s claims that the two had colluded on obtaining sensitive information about Hillary Clinton, the Russian lawyer, Natalia Veselnitskaya, destroyed this narrative. “I never had any damaging or sensitive information about Hillary Clinton. It was never my intention to have that,” she said. (via NBC News)
The Russian lawyer spoke in an exclusive interview with NBC News where she denied having any connection to the Kremlin. Natalia Veselnitskaya, who met with Donald Trump Jr. during his father’s presidential campaign, said she met with the president’s son to discuss the Magnitsky Act, a piece of legislation concerning adopting – not to hand over information about the Clinton campaign.
Trump Jr. confirmed that a meeting between them occurred, where he said the topic of conversation was primarily on the topic of adoption.
The lawyer was originally working on information she was collecting for a client, which included details about a company run by a former U.S. citizen whose business didn’t pay taxes in either Russia or the U.S. Additionally, the company may have also made donations to the DNC.
However, when asked by Donald Trump Jr. whether she felt there may be some financial records that would prove the funds used by the DNC we’re coming from dubious sources, she said she had no records and that “it was never my intention to collect any financial records to that end.”
Natalia broke apart the collusion narrative even further by saying that she “never asked anybody for a particular meeting with Mr. Donald Trump Jr. or with anybody else.”
White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee-Sanders said, “The only thing I see inappropriate about the meeting is the people that leaked the information about the meeting after it was voluntarily disclosed.” (via Washington Post)
When asked about if Trump was concerned about the encounter, Huckabee-Sanders said that such meetings were routine occurrences when it comes to campaigns. “Don Jr. didn’t collude with anybody to influence the election,” she add.
Further supporting this claim is Alan Futerfas, Trump Jr.’s lawyer, who said, “Don Jr. had no knowledge as to what the specific information, if any, would be discussed.” He later said that the reports are making “much ado about nothing,” and pointed out that Veselnitskaya was not a government official in any way and had not been a prosecutor since 2001. In addition, the Kremlin stated they had never had any connections with the Russian lawyer. Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said they had no clue who the lawyer was, and that they “cannot keep track of every Russian lawyer and their meetings domestically or abroad.” (via The Washington Post)
As the manufactured Russian-Trump narrative continues to fall apart and the media becomes ever more desperate to find anything that perpetuates scandal, Trump continues to work. Hopefully Americans will see through the charade and realize the media is making a mountain out of a mole hill with no foundation to stand on.
