President Trump has been under fire by the Democrats over the supply shortage in Puerto Rico following the horrific events of Hurricane Maria. In typical leftist fashion, they are acting impulsively without looking at the whole situation — or they are choosing to ignore it entirely.
As it turned out, President Trump learned what was going on in the US island territory, and it is leaving him stunned. While the president has managed to get them all the aid possible to help them recover from challenging times, leadership in Puerto Rico is failing, according to FrontPage Mag. Island officials are failing majorly with the logistics of the supplies and relief efforts, therefore allowing Puerto Rico to remain a disaster.
The priority in Puerto Rico is getting fuel to the rest of the island. It is crucial that people there have fuel to keep hospitals, nursing homes, and critical needs facilities up and running, as well as to provide fuel to people who need to drive to work — the ports — to distribute the relief supplies throughout the island.
However, the workers are not able to get to the ports or airstrips to distribute the fuel to people who need it the most. The reason why is shocking.
Many pictures showing the damage from the hurricanes also show that the infrastructure is all but collapsed. This poses another unique problem: how are truck drivers supposed to deliver supplies and get to relief centers to pick up the supplies if they don’t have roads to drive on?
It also doesn’t help that the truck drivers are struggling with their own issues. “There should be zero blame on the drivers. They can’t get to work, the infrastructure is destroyed, they can’t get fuel themselves, and they can’t call us for help because there’s no communication. The will of the people of Puerto Rico is off the charts. The truck drivers have families to take care of, many of them have no food or water. They have to take care of their family’s needs before they go off to work, and once they do go, they can’t call home,” explains Colonel Michael A. Valle, the man in charge for Hurricane Maria relief efforts.
The result is only one-fifth of the employees showing up to do their jobs in this time of crisis. In times like this, 20 percent is better than nothing, but it also slows down the recovery process significantly.
Currently, there are approximately 9,500 storage containers filled with supplies more valuable than the most precious metal, and they can’t be distributed due to lack of drivers and crumbling infrastructure.
The governor of Puerto Rico admitted that President Trump did exactly what needed to be done. He was quoted as saying: “The president and the administration, every time we’ve asked them to execute, they’ve executed quickly,” according to Breitbart.
Puerto Rico officials are failing majorly with the logistics of the situation, while some officials and the media blame the president for their ineptitude. Do they owe Trump an apology?
No one is allowed to move at certain hours due to curfews that were put in place, then adjusted. Initially, a curfew was in effect from 6 PM to 6 AM. Now, the times have been changed from 7 PM to 5 AM.
This time could potentially be used to get more supplies around the island and elevate residents to a slightly better situation — albeit far from perfect. So what does all of this prove?
The facts of the situation show that this is far from being a “federal” problem. In fact, on a federal level, everything the Puerto Rican people need has been provided on multiple fronts. It is up to the local government in Puerto Rico to put in the hard work and effort to save their hurricane-ravaged island.
