It seems that even the Democrats have had enough of Nancy Pelosi, and it turns out that her political career might be on the receiving end of a damaging blow.
According to The Philadelphia Inquirer, one top House Democrat has revealed that the party is thinking about turning their backs on Pelosi and her leadership. They, the Democrat said, are planning on taking her minority leader job away!
It’s a development that has left conservatives across this nation elated. A senior House Democrat said yesterday that it was time for Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to prepare to step down and make way for the next generation of lawmakers in the party and the caucus.
The California representative has served in Congress since 1987 as well as having led the House Democrats for the past 14 years. However, it appears that many within the party have had enough of her leadership style.
Rep. Linda Sanchez (D-CA) said, “I do think we have this real breadth and depth of talent within our caucus and I do think it’s time to pass a torch to the new generation of leaders and I want to be a part of that transition. I want to see that happen. I think we have too many great members here that don’t always get the opportunities that they should. I would like to see that change.”
In addition to calling on Pelosi to step down, Sanchez has made it clear that many in her leadership team should prepare themselves to make a similar transition.
“They are all of the same generation and, again, their contributions to the Congress and the caucus are substantial. But I think there comes a time when you need to pass that torch. And I think it’s time,” she said.
Interestingly, even Pelosi said that she was thinking about leaving Congress at one point, although not for the reason one might hope. Instead, she had said that she stayed because she thought Hillary Clinton would win, and with a Democrat woman at the helm of this country, she felt she could step down under those circumstances.
“We wanted to have a woman president. But when we didn’t, then I couldn’t walk away and say, okay, just let all the men have the seats at the table that are making decisions for our country,” she added.
Top House Democrat has revealed that the party is thinking about turning their backs on Pelosi and her leadership. Is it time for her to go?
This isn’t the first time a liberal political figure lamented the problems of a male-dominated Congress. Michelle Obama made a similar comment recently, chastising the lack of diversity in both gender and race among the Republican Party. This mandatory-diversity line of thought stands in contrast to the free meritocracy that the founding fathers intended for this country.
Sanchez isn’t the only Democrat to espouse this opinion. Pelosi managed to beat back a political challenge from Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH) last year for the Democrat leadership position. In fact, many are speculating that Pelosi won’t be able to stand up to another serious contender to her leadership.
Considering the losses the Democrats’ have sustained in the last year, including losing the White House, it’s not surprising that the party is considering switching things up in light of their failures.
