Rick Harrison is not just the star of a reality show on the History Channel; he is a real businessman, an entrepreneur, and an American. He recently sat down with Fox News and explained the truth about former President Obama.
Harrison explained that Obama has effectively made running his business “literally a nightmare.” The red tape and restrictions put up by the previous administration have left a bad taste in the mouth of the reality star and other small business owners around the country. “The effect of the eight years of Obama is finally showing up,” Harrison explained on FOX Business Network.
The owner of Gold & Silver Pawn Shop, Harrison endorsed Trump when he was just a candidate. Since being elected as president, Harrison explained that he thinks Trump is doing a great job.
He clarified that one wouldn’t know that Trump was doing a good job by watching “the news.” The obvious blow was directed towards the other mainstream networks that are doing everything they can to demonize the president.
Harrison then explained that all they have to do is make it easy to do business in America, and people will do business — period. This is in response to the Obama administration changing the way that the GDP was figured.
“We had .7 GDP [growth]…in the last quarter, and if you figure GDP the way we did four years ago, that would be negative growth. Four years ago…they decided all R&D [suddenly] goes into the plus column instead of the expense column and…it was a way the administration actually boosted up GDP,” he added.
At the end of the day, Harrison said that he just wants to get rid of Obamacare, rid businesses of all of the regulations, lower his taxes, and he will open more businesses. It is that simple.
The accomplishments of the reality star include his pawn shop, obviously, but it goes well beyond that. He also has a production company, a bar, a restaurant, and helps invest in shopping centers. It can be very difficult to manage all of this when there is red tape everywhere.
Another panelist asked Harrison what he thinks they are going to pass under Trump, legislatively. He explained that the Republicans are going to likely pass tax reform first because if they don’t, they will not be able to stay in office.
The red tape and restrictions of the Obama administration hindered businesses. Has Trump been good for businesses?
The best description that Harrison has for what Obama did was “Death by a thousand cuts.” This sums up the red tape and the loss of revenue flowing to small businesses from generally impractical decisions.
“The Obama administration made it illegal for me to loan any money to anyone in the military. I have one compliance guy just for a pawn shop. It’s everything from Homeland Security, FBI, the local police department, IRS – all these regulations I have to keep an eye on constantly and it’s just overwhelming for a small business,” Harrison explains.
At almost a year into his first term, President Trump has been working hard to make the changes that Harrison and many other hard-working Americans have asked for. These changes are crucial for better businesses and a better America.
