Oprah Winfrey made her career in television and film. The Oprah Winfrey Show and the movies she appeared in such as The Color Purple and Selma, projected her into the spotlight.
Despite ending her show, Oprah Winfrey has had no trouble finding ways into the limelight and staying relevant. Next year she’s set to appear in a major role in a Disney film, an adaptation of the novel A Wrinkle In Time. (via DennisMichaelLynch.com)
A Wrinkle In Time is a Science Fiction/Fantasy novel written by Madeleine L’Engle. Originally published in 1963 and made into a TV adaptation in 2003, the story tells of a young girl, Meg, who’s struggling at school and emotionally immature since the disappearance of her brilliant scientist father. She’s met by a trio of strange women who reveal her father has been taken and is being held on the other side of the galaxy.
Oprah plays the role of Mrs. Which, one of the strange women who helps the little girl. Her voice has also been heavily utilized in the trailers as a narrator.
The multi-billionaire media mogul is most famous for her talk show, The Oprah Winfrey Show, that ran for 25 years. She’s made a name for herself as an “influencer” and champion for various causes both liberal and conservative. Yet with her support of gay marriage, and overwhelming support for Obama, it’s clear she follows a more liberal mindset.
Many analysts believe her power and influence is one of the primary reasons Obama was elected president in the first place. With the backing of a media juggernaut with a viewership in the millions, Obama had a strong voice for his platform.
Since Obama’s disastrous two terms as president, Oprah has been relatively silent on politics. She did make it very clear she didn’t support Trump, comparing his presidential goals to a “demagogue.” Yet, it seems the only reason she supported Hillary was as a means to oppose Trump and nothing more.
When asked in an interview with Pastor T.D. Jakes, she said she often hears people debating whether they “like her [Hillary].” Oprah’s response showed she didn’t care much for Hillary, but felt there wasn’t much choice in order to promote the liberal agenda, saying, “You don’t have to like her,” and advised the audience to, “get out there and vote.” (via Politico)
It seems Oprah followed the blind direction of liberals at large by supporting Hillary no matter what. A liberal involved in private email scandals, money laundering through the Clinton Foundation, the disastrous handling of Benghazi, and the pay-to-play schemes as Secretary of State, had to be better than Trump because the liberal hierarchy says so.
Oprah has been a longtime critic of Trump. Are you planning to see her new movie?
After Trump’s victory, he met with Obama as part of the transition to the presidency, a move that apparently relieved Oprah, causing her to tweet, “Everybody take a deep breath! #HopeLives!” She explained this tweet in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, “I just saw President-elect Trump with President Obama in the White House, and it gave me hope. To hear President-elect Trump say that he had respect for President Obama, it felt that he had reached a moment where he was actually humbled by that experience.” (via Milo Yiannopoulis)
It seems her initial concerns over Trump were entirely reversed, not due to the good he was going to bring to America, but simply because he respected Obama.
Hopefully her role in the upcoming movie is a sign that she will remain focused in industries she does well at. While her philanthropic efforts to cure poverty, end worldwide hunger, and rebuild after natural disasters are greatly appreciated, her opinions on politics are best left to her private thoughts.
