If there’s one thing that people hate about politicians, it’s their fake sincerity. No one likes getting used for someone else’s publicity stunt, but it seems that’s exactly what former President Obama did to the victims of Hurricane Sandy.
According to Philadelphia News, Obama ended up using this woman for a photo-op, and then didn’t even help her! It’s the complete opposite of President Trump, who hasn’t done any photo-ops but is more focused on actually helping hurricane victims. He cares more about results than looking good for the press.
In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, President Barack Obama joined Gov. Chris Christie in surveying the devastation at the Jersey shore. He ended up giving a hug to a distraught local business owner, Donna Vanzant, whose business was destroyed by the storm.
After the photo-op was finished, he promised her that she would get “immediate” assistance. As the picture went viral just as his re-election was looming, the former president ended up discarding this poor woman like a used handkerchief.
He never made good on his promise at all!
In an interview, she said, “I am surviving. Just surviving. My biggest problem at this point is the insurance companies. Big time. I’ve heard of people that have gotten money from FEMA, but of course FEMA doesn’t help businesses. I’m waiting on my flood policy to come through and help rebuild. Without them sending the money, I can’t start.”
She went on to describe how Hurricane Sandy caused over half a million dollars in losses, and the insurance companies continue to deny her money. “If it was the last job on Earth, I wouldn’t work for an insurance company,” Vanzant said. “I couldn’t do what they do to people. I couldn’t sleep at night.”
The worst part, however, is that after his visit, Vanzant sent an email to President Obama. The response was horrifying.
“It had nothing to do with what I was asking him,” she said. “It was a form letter. It thanked me for supporting the troops. He made a promise to rebuild on national television, and I can’t even get this money. It’s heartbreaking, really. I did reach out to Senator Whelan, and I got a response that they were forwarding my email to the person that Governor Christie put in charge of Sandy relief. But from President Obama, I got a form letter.”
“When you get a hug from the president of the United States, you feel like there’s something there. A promise was made…You promise something, you keep it, and that was a broken promise,” lamented the struggling business owner.
Unfortunately for Vanzant, she found out the hard way that not all politicians are the same, and many aren’t willing to truly do something to help their constituents. That’s why so many people are fans of President Trump. He doesn’t waste his time doing photo-ops to look good in front of the media; he actually gets to work and focuses on results.
That’s the difference between a businessman and a politician. Obama’s fake sincerity towards the plight of others deserves to be brought to light.
