The infamous anthem protesters of the NFL have been caught in another anti-American plot, this one dating before the current controversies within the league even started.
New tax documents released by conservative watchdog group 2ndVote showed that the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) donated thousands of dollars to liberal advocacy groups. Shockingly enough, the player’s union teamed up with George Soros’s Foundation for Open Society in donating to the Center for Community Change Action, an anti-Trump resistance group, according to The Washington Times.
It’s a revelation that many America-loving NFL fans are shocked to discover, but it seems that long before the anthem protests rocked the league, players were getting themselves involved in progressive, anti-American advocacy groups.
The NFLPA, in addition to the $5,000 donated to the Center for Community Change Action, also contributed to Working America, an organization that Open Secrets said spent close to $1 million in the 2016 election to try and defeat Trump. This group has committed itself to fighting against Trump’s proposals, including the recent Republican tax-cut framework, which they call the “Trump tax scam.”
According to Breitbart, the Center for Community Change has its own ties to wealthy liberal activists. The organization’s executive director, Deepak Bhargava, happens to sit on the advisory board of George Soros’s Open Society Foundation.
In addition to this, the NFLPA also contributed another $5,000 in 2014 to Jobs with Justice, another pro-union group that also has connections to Soros. This donation was matched by another in the previous year to the progressive Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy.
Interestingly enough, the Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy (LAANE) was one of two groups that the Los Angeles City Ethics Commission found guilty of failing to accurately report how much they spent trying to influence city lawmakers. The commission fined them $30,000 for a dozen violations over a three-year period – the highest fine the Ethics Commission ever imposed in its history.
2ndVote said that “Clearly, ‘social activism’ by NFL players includes aligning with George Soros and other liberal organizations like Planned Parenthood in support of the Left’s agenda.”
“With television audiences declining every week and fans growing increasingly tired of the disrespect of the flag, the league, and the players’ union would find it in their best interest to end the liberal activism and focus on football,” added the group. “After all, millions are finding it in their best interest not to watch the NFL at all.”
NFL players group makes leftist donations. Are NFL players becoming left-wing activists?
This history of donations to liberal advocacy groups isn’t surprising when one learns that DeMaurice Smith, head of the NFLPA, has been a previous donor to the Democrat Party. Smith specifically gave $3,300 to Barack Obama’s presidential campaign in the 2008 season, along with six other contributions to liberal or left-wing Democrats that season.
With a recent Rasmussen poll showing that just over one-third of NFL fans are tuning out from the game entirely over the anthem protests, 2ndVote is bringing up an important point that the league should take seriously. With millions in viewership and potentially billions in profit at risk, the league’s decision to pursue politics over sports is one that might end up costing them greatly.
It appears that the NFL has been against Trump’s side for far longer than conservatives first anticipated, and it’s something that NFL fans should be angry about.
