It seems that we no longer have just North Korea’s conventional missiles to worry about. Congressional experts have concluded that Kim Jong-un has another trick up his sleeve that’s just as dangerous as any nuclear bomb.
While our defense analysts have been preoccupied with North Korea’s missile capabilities, one expert has warned that their satellites currently orbiting the US could be used to launch an EMP attack. Such a move would not only destroy electronics and infrastructure, but could result in a significant number of Americans deaths.
EMP attacks might sound like something out of a Tom Clancy novel, but the reality of their danger has loomed in the minds of our military leadership for many years. Some analysts have worried that with the state of our infrastructure grid, a surprise EMP attack could lead to the deaths of millions of people.
Hence the reason for concern. Dr. Peter Vincent Pry, executive director of the Congressional Task Force on National and Homeland Security, spoke on a popular radio program saying, “We should not be tolerating the North Korean satellites that are orbiting over our country. There are two of them. And the intelligence community is still silent about those.”
“The EMP Commission has officially been warning about those satellites especially now that the (intelligence) community admits that North Korea can miniaturize warheads,” Pry continued. “Our argument all along has been that they could make weapons small enough to put on those satellites that pass over the United States on the optimum trajectory for an EMP attack on North America.”
Pry noted that the two satellites are orbiting at an optimum height to disrupt the electronics and infrastructure over 48 states. Some have speculated that this strategy might be Kim Jong-un’s ace in the hole and for many Cold War experts, is reminiscent of a similar strategy pioneered by the Soviet Union.
What’s even worse is that US intelligence communities have stood mostly silent on the matter. Pry stated, “This is such an act of irresponsibility for both the intelligence community and…the mainstream media. To leave the America people pretty much in the dark about this.”
“People will be psychologically unprepared for that at all levels of the government,” Pry warned.
Unpreparedness seems to be a common theme when one looks into the current state of our level of EMP preparedness. A study conducted by the Heritage Foundation a few years ago found that America was shockingly vulnerable to such an attack. DARPA announced plans for new defense systems to combat this threat a few months ago, but full implementation will not be ready until 2020.
Experts have been fearful of a disruptive EMP attack occurring on American soil, an attack that could, for all intents and purposes, thrust us back into the 1800s. Do you think North Korea has the capability to execute an attack like this?
A potential EMP attack from North Korea stands as a real threat to Americans. With their ICBM technology still only having enough range to target Alaska and Hawaii, North Korea’s threats over the seemingly insignificant island of Guam could very much be a distraction from the main attack.
With their satellites perfectly in position for an optimal EMP strike across the United States, the US military must be on the alert, lest hundreds of millions of Americans suffer without electricity, transportation, electronics, and other essentials of modern day life.
As of now, it looks like a new Cold War might be brewing on the horizon. Hopefully, it won’t last as long as the first one.
