It seems like long-time Republican, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), is finding himself in a tricky situation as President Trump’s former strategist gears up to take him down.
Having returned to his position at Breitbart, and after taking out Luther Strange, Trump’s former strategist Steve Bannon is gunning for McConnell, his next target, according to The Gateway Pundit.
Appearing on Sean Hannity’s show to discuss his plans for the upcoming year, he told the top-rated pundit, “We are going to cut off the oxygen to Mitch McConnell.”
“By the way, these guys work three days a week. The American people, now, they’re working two jobs. Their wives are working two jobs. They know the urgency out there on the economic hate crimes that have been perpetrated on the American working men and women in this country because of the trade deals,” Bannon said.
“We are declaring war on the Republican establishment that does not back the agenda that Donald Trump ran on and the President of the United States and that is an agenda that we know backs the men and women of this country,” he added.
Since he left his post at the White House last month, Bannon has returned to his old position as executive chairman at Breitbart News, where he intends to use his influence to best aid the President, and stop those who are targeting him and obstructing his agenda. Besides the Democrats, those in the anti-Trump camp include many establishment Republicans who find Bannon’s influence distasteful.
“The elites hold me in contempt,” he said, according to Fox News. “They think I’m a bad guy. They think I’m a dangerous guy. I wear their contempt as a badge of honor. They have helped destroy this country. They have done nothing but allow economic hate crimes against working men and women in the heartland of this country.”
This isn’t the only piece of bad news that McConnell has to worry about. With donors and contributors to the party fed up with the lack of results from Republicans, the party is finding itself in an unparalleled funding crisis. “I’m sick and tired of nothing happening” seems to be the common complaint among once hopeful supporters of the GOP, according to a previous story we covered.
“Karl Rove, Steve Law, they should get the joke because their donors are coming to us because they’re tired of having their money burned up by trying to destroy people like Judge Moore,” Bannon added, referencing the GOP’s funding crisis. “It’s a new game in town. We’re going to cut off the oxygen to Mitch McConnell. We are going to win.”
Steve Bannon is planning to take out Mitch McConnell. Do you think it’s time for McConnell to go?
Bannon has come to the defense of Trump and his administration for a long time. In addition to helping fight against Luther Strange in the Alabama primary, he came to Trump’s defense when Republican Senator Bob Corker (R-TN) criticized Trump’s social-media statements, saying that the White House was becoming an “adult day-care center.”
“If Bob Corker has any honor, any decency, he should resign immediately,” said Bannon.
As McConnell worries about the prospect of his political career coming to an end, it’s reassuring to see that there are still some in the media who have Trump’s back.
