America’s military forces have taken a drastic turn for the better under Mattis’s leadership. Having been freed from the political shackles that have chained previous Defense Secretaries, Mattis is free to run the American military in a way that honors its brave men and women who constitute its armed forces.
As President Trump and Defense Secretary James Mattis remembered those who lost their lives on 9/11, he let the president, as well as this nation’s enemies, know that this country isn’t going to be backing down from a fight. “Mr. President, your military does not scare,” said Mattis, according to the Washington Examiner.
The famous general went on to commend the spirit and resolve of the American nation on the anniversary of the terrifying terror attacks, saying that this nation is neither “made of cotton candy” nor is it “seaweed drifting in the current.”
Instead, he went on to talk about the character of this nation, its courage, and commitment in confronting the dangers it faces in the 21st century. “Maniacs disguised in false religious garb thought by hurting us they could scare us that day, but we Americans are not made of cotton candy, we are not seaweed drifting in the current, we are not intimidated by our enemies, and Mr. President, your military does not scare.”
Mattis was joined by President Trump and the First Lady alongside service members and the families of those who lost loved ones 16 years ago on that fateful day which claimed 2,996 lives.
“In the aftermath of the attack our service members, our nation rallied together as one, for while we had never asked for this fight, we are steadfastly committed to seeing it through as President Trump has made abundantly clear,” said the Defense Secretary.
He went on to praise the heroism and passion of those who were involved with the rescue efforts of 9/11, as well as the solidarity that the American people expressed in such a time of adversity.
“Heroism and passion were boundless on 9/11,” said Mattis. “Patriots from all backgrounds and all walks of life responded with speed, with courage, and with compassion. In the aftermath of the attack, our service members, our nation, rallied together as one.”
Although sentimental for the occasion, Mattis’s words underline a strong commitment to destroying the enemies of this nation and protecting its citizens.
Gen. Mattis assures us that our military does not scare. Do you have confidence in Mad Dog?
In stark contrast with the previous military and political leadership of the Obama administration, Mattis was instrumental in switching this nation’s policy against ISIS from “attrition” to one of “annihilation.”
“Our intention is that the foreign fighters do not survive the fight to return home,” said the Defense Secretary at the time, cementing this administration’s commitment to fighting, and destroying, ISIS. Mattis’s nickname “Mad Dog” wasn’t earned for nothing. His commitment to military excellence and ensuring the nation’s safety is clear.
As people all across the nation remember the tragedy of 9/11, America has refocused its priorities under President Trump and is letting its enemies know that they won’t be getting away with taking advantage of America anymore.
