Bullets Tore Through His Leg in Vegas, But What He Does Next Defines Being American

There is a time to kneel, and a time to stand. True patriots know the difference.

Thomas Gunderson was running towards the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino on Sunday night when a bullet pierced his leg, sending him to the ground. Gunderson was badly wounded and is receiving treatment at the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada. Despite his injuries, Gunderson stood patriotically when President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump came to visit his hospital room, gritting his teeth through the intense pain, reports The Daily Mail.

I will never lie down when the President of this great country comes to shake my hand! There may be plenty of issues in this country but I will always respect my country, my president and my flag. Shot in the leg or not, I will stand to show my President the respect he deserves!

Thomas Gunderson was one of the over 500 Americans wounded Sunday night when a lone gunman opened fire from his suite on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino. At around 10:00 PM, Stephen Paddock opened fire from his hotel room, raining a hailstorm of bullets down on the 22,000 country music fans attending the Route 91 Harvest Festival, killing 59 and wounding hundreds more.

President Trump and his wife Melania traveled to Las Vegas yesterday to meet with doctors and victims at the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada. Over 100 shooting victims were brought to the hospital in the wake of the mass shooting, and 50 have been admitted.

Gunderson had heard rumors that President Trump was planning to stop by his room, and he was prepared to stand and greet his president.

In the video he posted to Facebook, Gunderson is clearly in immense pain, however, he was not going to let that pain stop him from showing the President the respect he deserves.

First Lady Melania was the first to enter the room. Melania’s motherly instinct kicked in immediately, “Hi Thomas. How are you?” she asked, before telling him that he didn’t need to stand. “Hey, this guy looks tough to me,” President Trump chimed in when he went to shake Gunderson’s hand.

“I will never lie down when the President of this great country comes to shake my hand!” Gunderson said in the caption for the video he posted to Facebook. “There may be plenty of issues in this country but I will always respect my country, my president, and my flag. Shot in the leg or not, I will stand to show my President the respect he deserves!” he wrote.

Gunderson is apparently a supporter of President Trump. Trump’s abbreviated campaign slogan, #MAGA, is written proudly in bold red letters on the patient board in Gunderson’s room under the section: “what is important to me.”

President Trump met with other patients, medical staff, and surgeons while visiting the hospital. The White House has released a video compiling many of the encounters with “God Bless the USA” playing in the background.

Man who had bullet pierce his leg stood patriotically when President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump came to visit his hospital room, gritting his teeth through the intense pain. Are you sick of the disrespect shown to President Trump?

“I just met some of the most amazing people,” President Trump told reporters who traveled with him to the University Medical Center. “We met patients that were absolutely terribly wounded.”

“The doctors, the nurses – all of the people at the hospital have done a job that’s indescribable,” he said, adding, “I invited a lot of them over to the White House.”

Whether or not one supports the President, his visit to the hospital was one of decency and compassion. Hopefully, the Left can hold their criticisms and praise this one act.
