North Korea has been threatening the rest of the world for quite some time now. Kim Jong-un is becoming increasingly bold, and the world is watching and waiting to see what happens next.
Kim announced that North Korea is on the verge of reaching “equilibrium” with their military forces in relation to the United States, according to Newsmax. This news comes in light of their recent missile launch that took place over Japan this past Friday. Their behavior has caused a stark reaction from the United Nations Security Council, President Trump, and the rest of the world.
On North Korea’s Central News Agency, they announced Kim’s intentions, right after South Korea and the United States military picked up a missile launch from Pyongyang, North Korea’s capital city.
Disturbingly, this is the longest test flight of a ballistic missile on record from the dictator-run country. The missile passed over Hokkaido, a Japanese island, and traveled a total of 2,300 miles.
North Korea has been trying to perfect their missile launches since early this summer. We saw two launches back in July, and a nuclear test occurred on September 3rd. They do not seem to be slowing down anytime soon.
If anything, the North Korean military is picking up the pace of their testing, which is causing surrounding countries like Japan and South Korea to become concerned that they may be at risk for a strike, or that they may suffer irreversible damage if something goes awry.
The missile that was launched was the Hwasong-12. This is the same missile that was launched towards the end of August over Japan, and caused a serious stir. As they begin to test more frequently, it seems that they are gearing up for something big — something that could spark a war.
There have already been sanctions against North Korea from the United Nations Security Council. Their behavior is causing leaders to discuss issuing harsher sanctions against the already-depleted North Korea.
The UN Security Council has spoken against Kim’s behavior directly. They said that the missile tests that are taking place have “caused grave security concerns around the world.” There are strong feelings towards the use of nuclear weapons, obviously, and North Korea keeps pushing the envelope. The world waits with baited breath.
Kim has stated that he wants all hands on deck, so to speak, to work on finishing the missiles, so that they can be prepared to launch a nuclear missile at a moment’s notice.
Kim has stated that the intended goal is to “establish the equilibrium of real force with the US and make the US rulers dare not talk about military option for the DPRK.”
The question many people are asking is how much of this is just talk? Are there actual warheads capable of hitting the US mainland, or even Guam? A lot of this is still up in the air. Kim has a habit of lying, but at what point does crying wolf become a viable military tactic to hide a large strike?
