California is the home of the most rabid anti-Trump politics in the country. In the Golden State, however, a federal judge has just taken a stand for American liberty.
San Diego-based U.S. District Judge Roger Benitez issued a preliminary injunction against the state-wide restriction on “high-capacity magazines.” Despite receiving approval from California voters, Judge Benitez ruled that the law, which would have forced gun owners to give up their magazines, violated the Second Amendment. California has some of the strictest gun laws in the country. As proof of this anti-gun tyranny, the proposed law would have fined or jailed California gun owners who did not hand over high-capacity magazines by this weekend.
Thankfully, Judge Benitez intervened in order to uphold the rights of millions of Californians.
This is far from the first time that far-left Democrats in California have tried to confiscate legally-purchased guns.
In January 2016, a “gun violence restraining order” went into effect that allowed state authorities to seize guns without notification. (via The Washington Times)
This law came into being after the murderous rampage of Elliot Rodger, a college student who killed six people in the city of Isla Vista in 2014.
Noticeably, despite California’s anti-gun legislation, other massacres have occurred in the state. The most infamous of all was the Islamic terror attack that struck San Bernardino in the winter of 2015.
Even liberal rags in San Francisco admit that California’s tough anti-gun laws have done little to decrease the state’s high incidence of gun violence.
From a Christian perspective, denying people the right to self-defiance is tantamount to denying them the right to life. God’s most precious gift is the gift of life. By denying American citizens the right to arm themselves against attack, our secular government is essentially denying our right to life and property.
One of the absolute best books about the relationship between Christianity and self-defense is Charl Van Wyk’s Shooting Back. A devout Christian missionary, Van Wyk was one of the men who fired back at the nationalist terrorists who murdered eleven people in South Africa’s Saint James Church in 1993.
Van Wyk claims that Christians are obliged to defend themselves and their fellow Christians from violent attacks. Without the right to bear arms, such a duty is impossible to carry out in the modern world. This is why the Second Amendment should be embraced by all God-fearing people.
While perhaps no intentional, Liberals who want full-scale confiscation of guns are, in effect, saying that they want everyone to be a victim of a violent criminal — because that would be the end result of such a policy. You cannot prohibit free people from possessing the surest means of protection for themselves and their families without consequence.
Regarding our brilliant Constitution, James Madison said in The Federalist No. 46 that it preserves “the advantage of being armed which Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation… (where) the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms.”
