Many liberals have been extremely critical of General John Kelly’s appointment as White House Chief of Staff, with some saying it’s Trump’s way of militarizing the White House.
Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee explained on Fox News’ Fox & Friends how John Kelly is the perfect pick because of his military background. Huckabee believes he will prove to be a great choice because his background in the military taught him large scale organization, and “that if he doesn’t lead well somebody actually dies.” (via Fox News)
On Friday, Trump took to Twitter to announce that the outgoing Reince Preibus would be replaced by John Kelly. “I am pleased to inform you that I have just named General/Secretary John F Kelly as White House Chief of Staff. He is a great American….and a Great Leader. John has also done a spectacular job at Homeland Security. He has been a true star of my Administration.” (Via Donald Trump Twitter)
John Kelly, a retired four-star general of the Marine Corps, has a long history of service to our country in the military. In a statement about becoming Trump’s Chief of Staff, Kelly said, “I have been fortunate to have served my country for more than 45 years – first as a Marine and then as the secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. I am honored to be asked to serve as the Chief of Staff to the President of the United States.” (via ABC News)
In an interview with Fox and Friends, Huckabee had glowing admiration for Kelly because of his remarkable military service, saying, “He has made great sacrifices for this country, even putting his own life in harm’s way. He understands what it means to organize people and to be responsible for the lives of men and women and to know that if he doesn’t lead well somebody actually dies.” (via Fox News)
Many liberals see the changing of staff and resignations as a sign of Trump’s weak managerial abilities and friction among the staff. Some have even pointed to the firing of Anthony Scaramucci by Kelly’s request as a new era of authoritarianism in the White House.
Yet Huckabee believes there’s nothing to worry about, pointing out that it’s still early in Trump’s term. “I don’t think it’s a big deal that they’re still getting their sea legs.” (via Fox News)
President Trump chose General John Kelly as his chief of staff. Do you support his choice?
He strongly criticized liberals like Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA) who believes Kelly’s confirmation is evidence of Trump trying to “militarize the White House,” saying, “To somehow blame those incredible qualities of the military I think is disrespectful to every single person in uniform.” (via Fox News)
John Kelly will be a strong ally for Trump given his strong opinions on immigration and support of the travel ban, as well as the discipline and order he’ll bring to the position. Kelly’s confirmation represents a type of clean slate for Trump, and Kelly could be the much-needed muscle Trump needs to cut down on leaks from within the White House.
It’s nice to know that someone with such an impressive background and strong moral values is overseeing Trump’s staff.
