According to The Hill, the media has been on a constant tirade against President Trump for criticizing them for how they treated his reactions to Charlottesville.
Trump supporter Sean Hannity criticized the media’s attack on the president, saying nothing Trump does could ever make them happy. “If President Trump could actually cure cancer, make people in wheelchairs walk, give everyone a million dollars, if he could prevent heart attacks or stop car accidents, the media still wouldn’t be happy.”

The back and forth attacks grew to a fever pitch following Trump’s speech in Phoenix, Arizona on Wednesday. At the rally for Trump supporters, Trump spent nearly 30 minutes criticizing and attacking the media for worsening racial divides, attacking Americans, supporting hate groups, and for treating him as a racist.
Speaking on the divisions in our country following Charlottesville, President Trump laid most of the blame not on Antifa or neo-Nazis, but the media. “If you want to discover the source of division in our country, look no further than the fake news and the crooked media.”
The media fired back with a vengeance.
CNN’s Don Lemon ripped into the president on a panel discussion. “He’s unhinged. It’s embarrassing… His speech was without thought, it was without reason, it was devoid of facts, it was devoid of wisdom, it was devoid of gravitas. There was no sanity there.”
David Boyer of the Washington Times claimed Trump was creating a mob to go out and attack reporters. “It was as if Trump, who was introduced by Vice President Pence, was taunting the rowdy crowd to turn on reporters. In this fevered environment, some journalist could get beaten, or worse.”
Ben Shapiro, founder of The Daily Wire, mocked others in media for proving what Trump was claiming. “His entire case is that they hate him on a root level, a gut level. Instead of coolly attempting to refute him, they go completely bats***.”
A Trump adviser similarly reduced the media’s response as refusing to take their own medicine. “They have thin skin to criticism. Last night was another example of the Greatest Show on Earth. Vintage Trump.”
Hannity said the media shouldn’t be surprised by the speech, saying Trump was justified in his frustration with the media for “expecting him to respond to them calling him a bigot and racist every day” and be nice about it.
He also claimed their vilification of Trump since his campaign days has made it impossible for them to see any good he’s done and easy to blame any problem on him, regardless of his role in it. “To the leftist media, everything is Trump’s fault. He can’t say or do anything in their eyes that is right.”
Trump’s anger with the media seems to be shared by many Americans, according to a study reported by The Hill. The poll of voters across the ideological spectrum estimates that nearly two-thirds of voters consider mainstream media outlets guilty of peddling fake news.
Mark Penn, co-director of Harvard-Harris who ran the poll, determined “Much of the media is now just another part of the partisan divide in the country with Republicans not trusting the ‘mainstream’ media and Democrats seeing them as reflecting their beliefs. Every major institution from the presidency to the courts is now seen as operating in a partisan fashion in one direction or the other.”
Liberal media shouldn’t be surprised by the backlash they received from Trump in Wednesday’s speech. After willfully ignoring Trump’s successes in office, constant criticism ranging from his intellect to his fitness for leadership, and the barrage of bigotry and racism allegations, he was bound to fight back.
It seems they forgot the old Chinese proverb to “wake not a sleeping lion.”
