After leftist Hollywood became rabidly vocal supporters of Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election — and became worse after Hillary Clinton’s loss –they’ve made a steadfast effort to criticize and resist President Trump. This has apparently hurt their fate for the 2020 election — and they might just be coming to terms with it.
The Washington Times reported on UK’s Sunday Times interview with George Clooney, during which he lamented that the Democrat Party isn’t collaborating with Hollywood to push their agendas and candidates, as he believes they should. Clooney admitted, “We don’t have a good Democratic candidate yet. We don’t have anybody who lights up a room.”
Clooney remarked on President Trump, who he has been a vocal opponent of.
“Trump, for all his terrible instincts, is very charismatic. A TV star … People didn’t vote for him because he accomplished anything. They knew him. And they were, like, he’s exciting. He says outlandish stuff. That’s fun. He’s got a star on Hollywood Boulevard,” Clooney said.
Clooney believes it will take a highly charismatic candidate to defeat President Trump — and the Democrats don’t have a candidate that fits the bill.
“You need what Barack Obama had: he showed up and you went, ‘That guy speaks to my voice,’” Clooney said.
Vanity Fair, an extreme left-wing magazine, is one of the few media outlets pushing for Clooney himself to run against President Trump. In a May 2017 article, the magazine called Clooney a political outsider lacking a voting record he could be held accountable for — much like Mr. Trump when he entered the race. The magazine believed that Clooney had the ability to “get under Trump’s skin” with what they deemed “a heartthrob status [which] could also help him chip away at Trump’s 54 percent vote total among white women.”
Despite the magazine’s wishes, and pressure from many others, Clooney has stated he will not be entering the race. “I don’t have political aspirations. I have always been involved in politics. My father ran for Congress. It’s been in our family forever. But, mostly, I can help in ways I actually know very well, like messaging,” the actor said.
Clooney’s analyses of political races haven’t been accurate, to say the least. He displayed his lack of political knowledge and disconnect with the American people when he famously stated in May 2016 at the Cannes Film Festival, “There’s not going to be a President Donald Trump. That’s not going to happen.” Yet the event did happen just months later.
Clooney is a well-known fundraiser for the Democrat Party, and he helped Clinton raise millions for her presidential campaign in 2016. He held a dinner at his home for Clinton, costing $353,000 per person — a figure he admitted was “an obscene amount of money.”
Clooney told of a meeting he had with the Democratic National Committee, in which he said, “You guys keep coming to us [in Hollywood] for money, but you don’t come to us for the one thing we know how to do, which is make a poster that steals opening weekend.”
Will the Democrats lose in 2020?
Other potential presidential candidates touted by the Left include Oprah Winfrey, even calling her “Democrats’ best hope for 2020.” However, last month, she publicly stated: “There will be no running for office of any kind for me.”
The recent turmoil in the Democrat Party sparked by Donna Brazile’s book, in conjunction with the party’s inability to agree on — or even find — a suitable candidate for the presidency, should increase the odds for President Trump’s reelection.
