Fox News has been struggling to retain their staff since the beginning of 2016. After losing Bill O’Reilly, Megyn Kelly, and others, yet another Fox News host is set to leave the network.
Meghan McCain has announced that she is leaving the network to focus on “other things.” McCain was one of the female hosts of Outnumbered, which features a rotating cast of four female hosts, and one male guest dubbed as “one lucky guy,” according to Variety.
McCain was originally hired by the network in 2015. The split appears amicable, with McCain writing on Twitter that, “I’m so thankful to @FoxNews for the chance to be on @OutnumberedFNC but I’m leaving to focus on other things. I have no doubt the show will continue to do well and wish all my friends and colleagues at the network nothing but success.”
McCain is Senator John McCain’s (R-AZ), eldest daughter. After the Senator was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer, McCain went on a leave from the show. The Daily Caller has speculated that her father’s cancer is the main reason McCain has left the network. Senator McCain was diagnosed after having a blood clot removed from above his eye. Since then, he has been undergoing chemotherapy to battle the cancer.
Last week, Senator McCain appeared to be optimistic about his health, when talking with Jake Tapper. The serious diagnosis is undoubtedly troubling his whole family.
At the time of her father’s original diagnosis, McCain shared on social media, “The news of my father’s illness has affected every one of us in the McCain family. My grandmother, mother, brothers, sister and I have all endured the shock of the news, and now we live with the anxiety about what comes next.”
Friends have rallied around McCain to support her in light of her father’s diagnosis. McCain wrote a public thank you note her fellow Fox News contributor, Kat Timpf, writing: “This one has called me every single day since dad’s diagnosis—ride or die. Love you forever.”
Fox News released a short statement on the departure, stating, “Meghan has been a valuable part of Outnumbered and the FOX News team. We’re sad to see her go, but we wish her all the best.”
Previously, McCain has been a contributor the The Daily Beast and MSNBC. She began her career as a host on Pivot, a network aimed at millennials which has now closed up.
McCain is also well-known for her campaign writings, which have taken the form of a memoir entitled Dirty Sexy Politics. Her other book was co-written by comedian Michael Ian Black, and is titled America, You Sexy Bitch: A Love Letter to Freedom.
While she has a promising career ahead of her, there is no word yet on what McCain plans on pursuing. It’s likely she will remain at home to nurse her father, but the long future ahead of her may bring her back to media work. We may see her dabble in politics, too. There’s really no telling where things may go from here.
