After Kaepernick was left in the cold following the latest draft picks, many fans of the NFL seemed relieved that the anti-American player would stay off the field.
A former National Football League player, Burgess Owens, is one of those relieved the cop-hater won’t be playing. In an interview with Fox and Friends he criticized the NFL for its “anti-Americanism and thuggery.” (via Fox News)
A recent poll by Yahoo! Sports revealed that 26 percent of those who stopped watching NFL did so in part because of Colin Kaepernick and other players refusing to stand for the National Anthem. John Mara, co-owner of the New York Giants said that much of the mail he received from angry fans was due to Kaepernick’s anti-patriotism. “’If any of your players ever do that, we are never coming to another Giants game,’” Mara said, quoting a letter. Many teams, it seemed, understood that Kaepernick was bad for business, and following the draft picks, Kaepernick was left without a team. Yet it seems that at least one team might be willing to take a chance on Kaepernick: the Baltimore Ravens.
Former NFL player and author of the appropriately named book, Liberalism or How to Turn Good Men into Whiners Weenies and Wimps, Burgess Owens says he’s “not surprised” by fans refusing to watch when Kaepernick was protesting. (via Fox News)
According to Owens, when he played in the 70’s and 80’s the NFL was known for its patriotism and its character. He went on to say that its brand today has degenerated into “anti-Americanism and thuggery.” (via Fox News)
When asked about the seemingly overwhelming support for Kaepernick from liberals, Owens was swift to criticize it as nothing more than political posturing. “Every single election cycle they [liberal politicians] get them the anti-American sentiment, anti-flag, anti-police, anti-white, and it’s all to do one thing: get white and black socialist liberal elitists elected.” (via Fox News)
The political posturing of liberals to win elections has never been more apparent than in the Hillary Clinton campaign. She spoke very little about her own goals in office, instead seeking to convince Americans to vote for her based on the fact that she wasn’t Trump.
She played every liberal card in the book, claiming he was sexist, bigoted, Islamaphobic, and so on. Protests like Kaepernick’s became an easy segue for politicians in support of Clinton to gain air time and push liberalism on NFL viewers.
Fortunately, fans of the NFL pushed back hard, as evidenced by the 26 percent of fans boycotting the sport.
The NFL has become a place for anti-American sentiment and political posturing. Do you plan to watch NFL football this upcoming season?
Owens warned conservatives that America is currently in a war of ideologies, “We’re fighting against an agenda of liberalism, socialism, and Marxism,” he said. He reminded Americans that we need to fight for our values and principles, saying, “We need to stand strong because the American way has always been the way that our country has thrived and come together.” (via Fox News)
He ended the interview with the expectation and hope that there will be no more demonstrations in the coming football season.
I think all of us are like Owens, hoping that the NFL will remain more about sports and patriotism, and less about liberal politics.
