WATCH: Shocking Video Catches Dem Senator SITTING During Pledge

One of the clearest displays of patriotism is standing for and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. Though it is not something to be forced upon people, this simple act shows how each individual feels toward the United States.

It seems former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick wasn’t alone when he refused to honor our nation. Another liberal sat down during the pledge in “protest” as well — state Senator Jamilah Nasheed (D-MO). (via Fox News)

Senator Nasheed was seen in a video sitting down during the pledge of allegiance among her colleagues in the Missouri Senate. When questioned later about her actions, she said, “I decided to not stand for the Pledge of Allegiance today to stand in solidarity with the cause of injustice that Colin Kaepernick has shined a bright light upon.”

She claims the protest wasn’t a sign of her lack of patriotism, but her concern over ‘current injustices‘. The ‘current injustices’ she claims are police brutality, voter suppression, mass incarceration, poverty, lack of healthcare, low wages, unequal pay for women, and wealth inequality.

Nasheed is known for her controversial protests. During the Ferguson police protests in 2014, she was arrested for refusing to get off the street and onto the sidewalks when police ordered her to do so. Police claimed she smelled of alcohol and attempted to have her take a breathalyzer, which she promptly refused. When taken into custody, police found a handgun on her person. Many at the time found it suspicious that the senator, who strongly advocated anti-gun policies, owned a weapon.

Lt. Governor Peter Kinder (R-MO) supported Nasheed’s freedom to protest, but criticized the example she would send to others “particularly for our young people.” When asked about his thoughts on the “current injustices” Nasheed protested, he stated, “I believe our best hope for tackling the tough issues of racial unity and economic opportunity is through the shared commitment to the principles and ideals that make America great. Standing to recite the Pledge of Allegiance and for the national anthem symbolize our unity of purpose to keep America the ‘land of the free, the home of the brave, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all’.”

But she’s not alone, as many Democrats appear to have issues with America — and their refusal to stand is tangible evidence of this fact.

In February of 2017, President Trump gave a speech before a joint session of Congress. During the speech, he acknowledged the presence of Carryn Owens, widow of fallen U.S. Navy SEAL William ‘Ryan’ Owens. Trump said of Ryan, “Ryan died as he lived — a warrior, and a hero, battling against terrorism and securing our nation.”

Democrat leaders initially stood for this round of applause, but sat down after the next part of the speech, refusing to stand. “I just spoke to General Mattis, who reconfirmed that, and I quote, ‘Ryan was a part of a highly successful raid that generated large amounts of vital intelligence that will lead to many more victories in the future against our enemies.’”

Trump continued, “Ryan’s legacy is etched into eternity. For as the Bible teaches us, there is no greater act of love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. Ryan laid down his life for his friends, for his country and for our freedom, we will never forget him.”

The liberals must have been offended by this due to their refusal to stand. What was it that offended them? The success of a military action against enemies of the United States? Trump’s quoting of the Bible? Or is it that their petty ‘resistance’ efforts against Trump make them unable to stand more than once during his speeches?

Whatever the case, it’s apparent that several liberals have negative feelings toward our country and our president. What hope does our country have when some of its representatives show open disdain for it? When America needs heroes as it faces terrorism and threats to our nation, we should think twice before looking to the Democrats — they could very well be sitting on the sidelines.
