Just last week, CNN boldly displayed a scandalous National Enquirer cover accusing Senator Ted Cruz of committing adultery. There’s just one little problem, however: it doesn’t exist.
In an earlier segment of “The Lead,” CNN aired a story involving MSNBC talk show hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski and their claim of White House blackmail, the news channel displayed a cover from The National Enquirer magazine, where the situation erupted. Instead of a cover containing photos of the story in question, it contained photos of GOP Senator Ted Cruz and his wife, Heidi, in what appeared to disclose a cheating scandal — and it was entirely untrue.
According to Page Six, CNN executives “flew into a panic” after they realized they had accidentally aired that cover containing completely falsified news.
Perhaps the reason for alarm was the fact that CNN lost three employees just a week prior due to a false story retraction about the supposed Trump-Russia “connection”. According to The Daily Mail, CNN had to retract the story due to the fact that they only used one source to scoop the story – a blatant violation of even their own protocol.
But the The New York Post claims that these staff members did not quit, but rather were fired. They reported a source saying, “Zucker stressed that this issue was a ‘lapse in editorial standards’ and said it was a lesson to all reporters and editors to continue to strive for strong, accurate reporting.”
Following the event, White House Spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders summed it up: “I think that we have gone to a place where if the media can’t be trusted to report the news, then that’s a dangerous place for America, and I think if that is the place that certain outlets are going, particularly for the purpose of spiking ratings, and if that’s coming directly from the top, I think that’s even more scary.”
To make matters worse, news media is questioning the story even after the magazine itself called it a fake. Amanda Carpenter, who is a former communications director for Cruz, was questioned following the slip-up and said, “What’s out there is tabloid trash. If someone wants to comment on it, they can talk to my lawyer. It’s categorically false, you should be ashamed for spreading this smut.”
Cruz has repeatedly denied infidelity rumors, telling Fox News correspondent, Megyn Kelly, when asked if he has ever committed adultery in his marriage, “I have not. That attack was complete and utter garbage. It was complete lies.”
The cover in question boasted the headline “Heidi Cruz: Betrayed by Cheating Husband!” But it is literally fake news, according to National Enquirer sources. CNN has not commented on the faux pas, but are said to be looking into the matter.
This isn’t the first time that CNN has used blatantly false reporting to push their partisan agenda. Here at Christian News Alerts, we’ve previously reported on CNN deceptively editing a panel discussion to hide the proof of voter fraud, admitting that they intentionally push fake news to get ratings, lied about prayer to make Republicans look bad, and say things in private that they would never say in public.
There’s no mistaking the reality: More and more, CNN is being exposed as an organization that spreads misinformation to its viewers — all to help push a liberal agenda and, by default, assist the Democratic Party in winning elections. As patriots and Christians, it’s time for us to say so.
