China just made a dramatic statement to President Donald Trump about his position on a rogue state with ties to the communist nation.
In response to President Trump’s aggressive stance towards North Korea, the Chinese government warned that, “the Chinese side is deeply concerned about the situation.” Shortly after, the nation held a parade designed to showcase their considerable military power. (via The Sun)
In the wake of North Korea’s latest successful missile launch — which some experts have cited as evidence that Pyongyang has the capability to strike within the United States — President Trump took to Twitter to chide China for its reticence in reigning in the rogue nation.
He tweeted, “I am very disappointed in China. Our foolish past leaders have allowed them to make hundreds of billions of dollars a year in trade, yet…they do NOTHING for us with North Korea, just talk. We will no longer allow this to continue. China could easily solve this problem!”
The Chinese government’s military parade was designed to bolster its warning to President Trump about his involvement in North Korea. The United States recently stepped up its deployment of the THAAD missile defense system in South Korea in response to Pyongyang’s missile launch. The missile system is designed to repel attacks from the north.
During the parade, thousands of Chinese troops marched next to tanks and nuclear weapons in inner Mongolia. Stealth fighters and helicopters flew overhead. Chinese President Xi Jingping gave a personal inspection of his troops. The parade was also intended to honor the 90th anniversary of the Chinese military’s formation.
The Chinese president has poured billions into the Chinese military with the hopes that they will eclipse the United States as the world’s foremost military power. President Xi stated that his troops should be prepared to destroy all “invading enemies.”
There is no doubt that the situation regarding the North Korean regime is escalating. The Kim dynasty has progressively built up their military might even in the face of sanctions and strong words from past U.S. presidents and the United Nations. The experts say that it is only a matter of time before the regime acquires the capability to strike the U.S. with a nuclear weapon.
Before taking office, President Trump expressed his commitment to ensuring that the North Korean regime will not be allowed to develop a weapon that could threaten Americans. He has repeatedly called on China to take a more active role in reigning in the rogue regime. China has previously been hesitant to take any action against their ally — mainly because they provide a geographic buffer against potential invasions from its southern region. North Korea has exploited China’s hesitation and has used it to engage in more saber-rattling with the West.
There are no desirable solutions to the North Korea problem. If North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un continues along his current path, it will become more likely that military force will be required. However, China is the wild card in this situation. While the Chinese government is not happy with the Kim regime, they still wish to protect their own interests. The best hope for a peaceful resolution lies with China, but it doesn’t appear that they are interested in derailing North Korea’s military aspirations.
