It seems that many in the liberal community aren’t particularly vocal in their condemnation of Harvey Weinstein in light of his recent sexual abuse scandal.
When reporters asked Chelsea Clinton whether or not the Clinton Foundation would return donations from the alleged sex offender Harvey Weinstein, she refused to respond, doing her best to evade the reporters as she rushed to her car, as Breitbart reported.
Clinton, who serves as a board member of the Clinton Foundation, dodged questions from reporters when they asked whether or not the Foundation would return $250,000 of donations that were given to Weinstein.
“Chelsea, will the foundation give back the donations from Harvey Weinstein?” asked one reporter as she left a Clinton Global Initiative University event via a side door. “Do you plan to return the $100,000?”
Instead of answering, Clinton looked straight ahead and ignored the questions as she hurried to her car. The evening prior, the Clinton Foundation officials stopped reporters from asking a similar question to Bill Clinton, who has also had little to say about the recent sex scandal.
Harvey Weinstein is accused of sexually assaulting and harassing a number of women throughout his career as a movie producer, something that many people in Hollywood apparently knew for a long period of time. Famous actors such as Tom Hanks said there were many rich and powerful people in the industry who share the former movie producer’s tastes, according to The Daily Caller.
Many Democrat-aligned groups and politicians have promised to return all of Weinstein’s political contributions to charity in light of these developments. Both Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) promised to do so as well.
The University of Southern California has also confirmed that it will return Weinstein’s donations. Even former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said that she would be donating over $35,000 Weinstein had given to her in the 2016 campaign and strongly condemned her past supporters actions.
“I was shocked and appalled by the revelations about Harvey Weinstein,” said Hillary Clinton, according to Fox News. “The behavior described by women coming forward cannot be tolerated.”
The Democrat National Committee, which received over $250,000 from Weinstein, said it would be donating a portion of that–just $30,000–to women’s groups.
Weinstein was a prolific supporter of the Clintons, having maxed out his personal political contribution amount back in 2016, as well as donating $30,000 to the Hillary Victory Fund. The movie producer also hosted fundraising events for Clinton, where celebrity guests paid thousands of dollars to meet with the presidential candidate.
Harvey Weinstein has donated thousands of dollars to the Clinton Foundation and Democrat Party. Should the Clintons return the donations?
Weinstein’s donations don’t mark the first time the Clinton Foundation accepted contributions from donors with questionable reputations. Back in the 2016 presidential election, the foundation accepted up to $50 million in donations from Saudi Arabia, which has its own history of women’s rights violations. Other controversial donors include convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, among others.
As Hollywood and the liberal community reacts to this development, it appears that some of those who benefited most from Weinstein’s donations are reluctant to say anything about the situation. It’s something that the supporters of Clinton’s foundation should find unacceptable.
