Under President Trump, the United States has been moving toward policies based on common sense. It seems our neighbors to the north, under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s administration, have not.
As the Canadian government offered millions of dollars to a terrorist who killed a U.S. soldier, one Marine’s response is calling out the ridiculousness of it all. “It’s totally offensive. This man kills somebody, and he gets then a check for $8 million? Even if the guy’s rights were violated, that’s worth $8 million?” (via Fox News)
A Guantanamo Bay prisoner and Canadian citizen, Omar Khadr, who killed one U.S. soldier and injured another, received a public apology and an $8 million check from the Canadian government after complaining that his rights were violated while he was detained in the U.S. facility.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau defended the prisoner, stating, “The charter of rights and freedoms protects all Canadians…even when it is uncomfortable. When the government violates any Canadian’s charter rights, we all end up paying for it.”
As you can imagine, this ridiculous situation is bothering a lot of people, specifically Layne Morris, a Marine who lost his eyesight in one eye due to a grenade thrown by the now millionaire Omar Khadr.
“It’s totally offensive. This man kills somebody and he then gets a check for $8 million?” said the veteran on Fox and Friends. Morris continued and said that Trudeau must live in a “sick, twisted ivory tower” to think that this represents any type of justice.
“This totally sucks. It’s just crazy that you’d give somebody like that $8 million because his feelings got hurt.” Morris went so far as to say there was “deliberate intent” on the part of Trudeau’s administration to shield Khadr from any legal repercussions.
His identity as a Canadian is only a matter of legality, as Khadr is reportedly the son of Islamists and was born in Canada via “birth tourism” as a means to secure a Canadian citizenship and the benefits that it brings. (via Daily Wire)
Despite claiming to represent the Canadian people, Trudeau’s constituents don’t agree with his decision at all. Approximately 71 percent of Canadians believe the liberal government made the wrong call. (via Global News)
“This settlement is a choice made by Justin Trudeau…a slap in the face to the men and women in uniform who face incredible danger every day to keep us safe,” said Conservative Party leader Andrew Scheer, echoing the belief of most Canadians. A petition against Omar Khadr’s outlandish payout by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation has already obtained 50,000 signatures in Canada.
Perhaps our friends from the north should retire Trudeau. What do you think? Let everyone know in the poll below!
What’s even more shocking is that advocacy groups such as Amnesty International have praised Canada’s actions. Alex Neve, secretary-general of Amnesty International, publicly stated, “…this is a tremendous day of justice, long overdue, for Omar Khadr who has endured so much…” (via Amnesty International)
Neve went so far as to pose for a friendly picture with the former terrorist.
Canada’s payout to a convicted terrorist sends a message to terrorists across the globe that the U.S. has an ally that does not hold to the same standard as we do. Now, more than ever, the Western world needs to stand united against a common enemy: Islamic terrorism.
It will be to our detriment if we do not.
