WATCH: Congress’ “Cajun Cowboy” Just Gave The NFL Bad News

The NFL is struggling to attract viewers as fans continue to boycott the league for allowing players to disrespect the flag and the national anthem.

Newly elected US Representative Clay Higgins (R-LA), delivered a message to the NFL from the back of his Harley. He explained that football used to be pure, real, and patriotic, but he just can’t watch anymore. “America hasn’t abandoned the NFL,” the Cajun Cowboy proclaimed. “The NFL has abandoned America!”

President Trump launched a national debate around the NFL after making controversial statements at a rally in Huntsville, Alabama, last Friday. President Trump attacked NFL players protesting the national anthem and suggested that owners should not let protesting players take the field.

Rep. Higgins echoed this sentiment and said, “If these guys earning massive paychecks to play a game want to sit down during our national anthem they can sit their a** down in the locker room. If I owned a team, they would not be on my field, and they would not wear my uniform.”

The mainstream media condemned President Trump’s comments and suggested he was planning to use the power of his office and force players to stand for the national anthem. On the contrary, President Trump was merely expressing his opinion, as any American has the right to do.

Rep. Higgins made this distinction clear when he said NFL players “have the right to disrespect the national anthem, and I have the right to turn off the TV.” The NFL is a private organization, and they are free to uphold their image however they see fit. The American people are not required to watch, and if the league is moving in a bad direction than the best option is to vote with your wallet, and that means turning off the broadcasts.

In 2007, NFL Commission Roger Goodell strengthed the player code of conduct in an attempt to rehabilitate the image of the league. The updated code of conduct sanctioned players for off-the-field conduct even if they were not found guilty of a crime.”

Newly elected US Representative Clay Higgins, a/k/a the Cajun Cowboy proclaimed,¬† “America hasn’t abandoned the NFL. The NFL has abandoned America!” Do you agree?

In 2007, Goodell defended the policy, saying, “It is important that the NFL be represented consistently by outstanding people as well as great football players, coaches, and staff. We hold ourselves to higher standards of responsible conduct because of what it means to be part of the National Football League. We have long had policies and programs designed to encourage responsible behavior, and this policy is a further step in ensuring that everyone who is part of the NFL meets that standard. We will continue to review the policy and modify it as warranted,” reported¬†USA Today.

Clearly, the NFL is happy to sanction the behavior of their players to maintain the league’s image. By not sanctioning players protesting the national anthem, the NFL implies that their image is inherently anti-American.

Now, football fans like Rep. Higgins are forced to choose between the country that they love and their favorite pass time. “The NFL is dead to me because the American flag that waves above me is alive inside of me,” charges Rep. Higgins. Polls show that most Americans agree.
