Hillary Clinton seems to have been in denial about the Benghazi incident since it first occurred over five years ago.
During a primary debate in 2016, Clinton said the mother of Sean Smith, one of the Benghazi victims, was “absolutely wrong” to call her a liar for saying a video caused the attack, according to Fox News. Pat Smith condemned Clinton for her denial, saying, “As Madeleine Albright said, ‘There’s a special place in hell’ for people like her. And I hope she enjoys it there.”
In an interview with Trish Regan on The Intelligence Report, Smith said she still has not been personally told what happened in Benghazi that led to the attack and her son’s death. She claimed that Clinton told her, in front of her son’s coffin, that an anti-Islamic video sparked the attack, something Clinton has since denied saying.
Smith said she only wants to know what happened and doesn’t care if some see her demands as politically motivated. “I think that as a mother I deserve to know. All I want to know is why my son is dead,” she said.
Unfortunately, Clinton doesn’t seem to see the need to talk about it and believes Smith and Republicans simply used the Benghazi incident to deny her the election, according to Fox News.
In an interview with NBC, she stated the attack was turned into a political ploy: “Take the Benghazi tragedy – you know, I have one of the top Republicans, Kevin McCarthy, admitting we’re going to take that tragedy – because, you know, we’ve lost people, unfortunately, going back to the Reagan administration, if you talk about recent times, in diplomatic attacks. But boy, it was turned into a political football. And it was aimed at undermining my credibility, my record, my accomplishments.”
Even as early as the congressional probes into the incident, she downplayed it, saying, “What difference at this point does it make?” Former US Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT), who questioned Clinton before the House committee, thinks she hasn’t changed her mind. “I think she really did believe that. She showed today that her comment about ‘what difference does it make’ was truly how she felt,” he said.
Yet her denial and eagerness to move on from the incident do little to hide the fact that her State Department ignored concerns about security and had poor defensive planning. It was also revealed that one of the security contractors hired to handle the disaster as it was occurring was pressured to keep quiet about the lack of security.
Benghazi mom called out by Clinton, says there is a “special place in hell” for Hillary. Do you agree?
The Accountability Review Board determined that the tragedy was due to “Systemic failures and leadership and management deficiencies at senior levels” in Clinton’s State Department that “resulted in a Special Mission security posture that was inadequate for Benghazi and grossly inadequate to deal with the attack that took place.”
The Benghazi incident was the result of poor management, lack of security, and dismal general oversight. Instead of confessing to her culpability in the incident and taking responsibility, Clinton has pressured everyone to move on and forget about it, claiming her loss in the election was the result of the Right “constantly trying to undermine me.”
Hopefully, with the new information coming to light, Mrs. Smith will find some peace in her son’s death. Of course, learning that her son died due to negligence at the State Department, and that this revelation has never been–and probably will never be–admitted by those involved, may continue to haunt her.
