The left’s disdain for Christian organizations was on full display in ABC’s report on Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ speech to a prominent religious freedom group.
Sessions recently gave a speech to the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) — a group that advocates for religious freedom and other issues using the legal system. On July 12, ABC News published a report with the following headline: “Jeff Sessions addresses ‘anti-LGBT hate group,’ but DOJ won’t release his remarks”. But that wasn’t all — it gets worse.
The article goes on to quote the Southern Poverty Law Center’s description of the Alliance Defending Freedom. They write:
“‘According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, the Alliance Defending Freedom is a legal advocacy group founded in Scottsdale, Arizona, in 1994, that “specializes in supporting the recriminalization of homosexuality abroad, ending same-sex marriage and generally making life as difficult as possible for LGBT communities in the U.S. and internationally.'”
The Southern Poverty Law Center has labeled ADF as a hate group because of their religious beliefs — and apparently, ABC News agrees. The reality is that ADF is a civil liberties organization that primarily advocates for religious freedom. According to The Federalist, the group is “ranked among the top law firms in the country for its successes at the Supreme Court.”
The notion that ADF is a hate group is absurd. Here is the reality: the organization does not use hateful language on its website. Its members do not engage in hateful acts. They are simply a group with which the left disagrees. However, it has been evident for decades that the left has a habit of erroneously labeling people with opinions who oppose theirs as hateful bigots.
The Southern Poverty Law Center has not just targeted the Alliance Defending Freedom. They have also labeled the Family Research Council as a hate group. The organization also attacks individuals and groups that oppose Islamic terrorism. They labeled activist and lawyer David Yerushalmi as an “anti-Muslim extremist.” Why? Because he created a campaign that would urge states to pass legislation that would prevent courts from consulting Sharia law when making their decisions. They have also given Maajid Nawaz — a Muslim — the same treatment because of his work to fight Islamic extremism.
It is not surprising that groups like The Southern Poverty Law Center would depict Christians as bigots — it is one of their most-used strategies. However, a news organization such as ABC News should know better. Instead of reporting on facts, they are attempting to smear an organization that does not conform to its leftist point-of-view. They publish these types of stories while still claiming to be unbiased.
Reports such as these are the reason why many Americans no longer trust the establishment media. Rather than report the news, news outlets like ABC News use their platforms to propagate their leftist views. They are doing a disservice to the American public — and this is why they are losing viewers. It’s only a matter of time before conscientious people replace the mainstream media completely with reliable, alternative news.
