President Donald Trump is frequently cast as a villainous racist by the mainstream media. In particular, his comments about the negative consequences of illegal immigration have earned him the hatred of many liberal activists.
Unfortunately for them, President Trump is right. Mexico is close to becoming a failed state. In June, Mexico had its deadliest month in twenty years with a reported 2,234 homicides. (via The Associated Press)
So far, in six months of 2017, Mexican officials have recorded 12,155 homicides throughout the country. Even popular tourist destinations like Veracruz and Baja California Sur have experienced increased rates of violence.
Mexico City, the nation’s capital, has long been upheld as a beacon of hope for the rest of the troubled country. Since the beginning of the Drug War in 2006, Mexico City has mostly been spared from the running gun battles, murders, and bombings that have characterized Mexico’s northern cities.
This is changing. After Mexican authorities killed a local crime boss, a rash of shootings and gun battles erupted all over Mexico City.
Now, Mexican marines and police have begun conducting antiterrorism raids in the city’s violence-plagued suburbs.
The shootout in Mexico, which occurred on Thursday, included as many as 1,300 Mexican marines and police officers. More troubling was the news that certain neighborhoods included provisional barricades and roadblocks meant to deter the Mexican authorities.
If Mexico City falls into narco-terrorist chaos, then there is little hope for the rest of the country. The Mexican Drug War is already deadlier than ever. Now, narco-terrorist groups have already been caught using IEDs to kill and maim police officers, soldiers, and marines.
For America, Mexico’s violence problem can easily become our problem. Given how easy it is to cross the border, many Mexican hitmen and cartel bandits have set up shop in both border states and large cities like Chicago and New York.
For America’s security, many believe that it’s time for Congress to approve President Trump’s border wall immediately. Do you support this? Let everyone know in the poll below!
The other problem with Mexico’s Drug War is that it creates a culture of corruption. Mexican cartels have so much power because they use their money to buy politicians, district attorneys, and police officers. Such corruption has already been found in the U.S.
All told, America must take back its southern border in order to preserve its republic. Violence can rock the foundation of any society, and when violence meets widespread corruption, even the most powerful nations can fall.
Increased border security, more deportations of illegal immigrants and drug dealers, and a reformed approach to the War on Drugs are needed right now.
